The young Magpies really took it up to Tatura at Memorial Oval on Saturday with a spirited 6 goals 1 behind to 1 goal 3 behinds in the 3rd quarter to be only 7 points behind at 3/4 time. However, the experienced Bulldogs steadied to run out winners 16.14 (110) to Euroa 14.8 (92). Billy HICKS and Tim LITTLE each kicked 3 goals for the Bullies - Jarrod POLLARD played an excellent game to be named Tat's best with Ben COSGRIFF. Euroa's little Magpie Neil SMITH was named their best along with other kids Marcus VARLEY, Klay GIOVANNINI and Patrick HORSBURGH. Shepparton United were very disappointing against Rochester at Deakin Reserve in beautiful condition. It was particulary disappointing for the Demons who had many of their Premiership players from the Senior and Reserves teams of 1989 back for a re-union along with Triple Premiership President Ian "Slab" MARRETT. The Demons were sort of half in it at 1/4 time only trailing by 5 points but for the remaining three quarters, the Tigers kicked 15 goals 12 to United's paltry 5 goals 4 behinds. Final score was :- Rochester 19.16 (130) to United 8.9 (57). Ben ANDERSON kicked 4 for the Tige's, Ben DEUSCHER and Chris McCARTY were very good for Rochy and were named as their best players. United's Phil CARROLL and young Matt FRIEDLIEB really battled their guts out all day. Over at Ky. on Saturday evening, right from the start at 7pm, you could tell that the Bombers were in for a good night with very clean ball handling and disposal. The Bombers defeated Mooroopna 22.18 (150) to 9.10 (64). Tyson WARNETT tried all night for the Cats and was named their best player whereas Ky. had good players and winners all over the ground - probably none better than Geelong boy Scott BEATTIE who really is a player! Ky. are going to have some selection head-aches when the finals arrive with Linc WITHERS, David O'SULLIVAN and Chris ATKINS to be fitted back in with the 3 Bushranger lads in Brad MANGAN, Liam OGDEN and Michael PRYDE. What a wonderful problem to have!
Round 16 :- Kyabram should defeat Shepparton at Deakin Reserve on Saturday, game commencing at 2pm - this is NOT a night game. Rochester, by rights, should be too strong for Benalla at Rochy and likewise up at Mansfield the Eagles will account for Shepparton United who go into the game minus two of their better players in Joe PERKOVIC and Clinton EDWARDS who have been suspended for this round because of indiscretions against Rochy last week. A good game will be up at Echuca where the Murray Bombers take on the Shepparton Swans - 8th plays 9th with neither a chance of playing finals - the home club should win. Mooroopna host Euroa which could be another very good game if the young Maggies are on song but the tipsters will install the Cats as favourites to win. Probably the Match of the Round will be down at Seymour where the Lions take on the Tatura Bulldogs. Seymour must win to retain 6th possie on the ladder and hope that Ky defeat Shepp to jump a game clear. The tipsters reckon the Bulldogs will prevail as they would rather have the Lions out of the finals than in them. The tipsters still think that this 6th spot will not be settled until Round 18 when Seymour host Shepparton at Kings Park.
No doubt about it all, the remaining 3 home and away games and the final series is really warming up to be very exciting.
