Big V Men into Grand Final, Women Bow Out

Big V Division One Men

Our Bulleen Boomers Division One men's team have scored a resounding win 104 - 84 win over Sherbrooke on the weekend to setup a Grand Final series showdown with the Sunbury Jets.

The Boomers simply shot the lights out in their preliminary final clash, shooting 50% from the field including a fantastic 55% from beyond the three point arc on 14 from 26 attempts. Sherbrooke has no answers to the Boomers scoring firepower in the first half as our boys established a commanding lead. While the game was more even in the second half, the Boomers were never threatened in securing a Grand Final berth.

Nathan Truman led the way with 26 points and 5 boards, with Luke Solomon (22 points, 5 boards) and Matt Cromarty (17 points, 7 boards) providing excellent support. All around just a great team effort by the boys.

The Boomers go into the 3 game Grand Final series against the Sunbury Jets full of confidence, having beaten Sunbury at home in the final game of the regular season and again in the qualifying final.

The Grand Final series kicks off next weekend on Saturday 15th August - game times will be posted to the Web site once Big V have confirmed fixturing.

So for the Grand Final series .... get out and support our boys over the next two weeks and ... GO BOOMERS ...

Big V Championship Women

Our Championship Women went into Saturday's game two against the Waverley Falcons one up in their semi final series, only needing to secure one more victory to also progress to a Grand Final berth.

And it was oh so close for our girls in Game 2, with a gutsy performance in an away game going down to the wire in overtime and the Boomers going down by the narrowest of margins 72 - 73.

Both teams had to back up on Sunday for Game 3, also at Waverley, and unfortunately the efforts from game 2 took their toll on our girls with the Boomers going down 39 - 63.

But it has been a great season for the girls, coming from right at the bottom of the ladder last season to be within a hairs breath of a Grand Final place, so well done to all the players and coaching staff. It has also been very positive for the Club as a number of our Bulleen Juniors have had the opportunity to step up and begin to gain senior Big V experience, which bodes well for the Boomers over the next few seasons.

We look forward to bigger and better things from our Big V Championship Womens team next season.
