Under 13 Premierships a huge Success

Basketball Otago is extremely pleased with the results of the Basketball New Zealand Under 13 South Island Tournament hosted in Otago over the weekend. 23 teams from around the South Island were in Dunedin to compete and trying to qualify for the National Finals, which will be held in North Harbour over the 5th to 9th of October.

The support for the event by the Basketball Otago community has been huge with all bench duty for the 60 games played having been supplied by Otago volunteers. Traveling teams have been very appreciative of this, as this has freed them to focus on playing their games. Basketball Otago also supplied over half the referees, well over the one per team required.

On Court, the four Otago teams performed very well. Both the Otago A sides finished third overall and have qualified for the National Finals. The Boys B team finished 6th and the Girls B team 8th after losing quarterfinal games. The results show the success of the Basketball Otago development program and the results bode well for the future of the sport here in Otago.

Next weekend four Otago Under 15 sides will travel to Blenheim hoping to continue the successful run for Otago Teams.
