Round 13 was played with matches on Friday night and Saturday. With only one round remaining before finals, it is good to see that not all age groups have settled ladders, with positions up for grabs in the final round to either make the top four, or get a higher spot within the top four for those teams already assured a place.
There were some close games in Round 13, with the Under 12s serving up a one point contest between West End and City Juniors on Friday night, with West End getting up and keeping their finals hopes alive. All other games went as per ladder positions, with Combined Saints assured top spot after Round 14, win or lose this week, and Glengarry and TEDAS holding onto second and thrid respectively. The all important game in Round 14 is the contest between Churchill (4th on 30 points) and West End (5th on 26 points). With only 2 percent difference, it would be expected that the winner of this match will take out fourth spot on the ladder and a place in the 2009 finals.
In the Under 10s, Police Boys got their 6th win of the season with a hard fought game over a very competitive Cumberland Park. West End continued with their unbeaten run and have top spot wrapped up. TEDAS have secured 2nd spot, with Southside guaranteed a place in the finals as well. Combined Saints (4th) will need to win to assure them fourth spot on the ladder, as Pax Hill is in fifth, but will need to beat Southside in Round 14 and hope Combined Saints lose to have any chance.
West End, TEDAS and Pax Hill have booked a place for the finals, but their final positions all hinge on this weeks games, with all having good wins in Round 13. City Juniors (4th) and Southside (5th) are vying for a finals berth and are both on 32 points. City meets TEDAS, while Southside play Pax Hill so both teams will be lookig for a win and gain confidence going into the finals series with a win over a top three team.
Round 13 matches in the Under 16s saw three games hotly contested, but it was Glengarry reinforcing its unbeaten position at the top of the ladder accounting for Churchill, who were second but now sit third by 29 points. The top four cannot change except for their finals positions depending on this weekends games. In Round 14, the top four teams all play teams below them, and with these teams hoping to finish off their season with a win, the final results will be interesting.
Good luck to all those teams that will finish at the conclusion of Round 14, and hopefully you can finish of the year with a win. To all those hoping to gain a finals spot, good luck, and lets hope we see some good footy being played again this coming weekend.
