Euroa were hot to trot right from the first bounce at Kings Park Seymour last Sunday. The Magpies were down by 15 points at 1/2 time but up by a solitary point at 3/4 time. Coach David PUTAMORSI encouraged his young charges during the huddle which really inspired the youngsters and the more mature aged players to run out winners over the more fancied Lions 14.12 (96) to 12.9 (81). G.V.F.L. Life Member Pat GIOVANNINI would have been a very proud man to see his grandson Klay slot a goal from the impossible pocket during the last quarter to really lift the Pies. Fair dinkum, the goal was an absolute gem, ah lah Daicos, Didak and Buddy. It was no fluke either, it seemed young Klay fully intended to have the footy jump and bend the way it did by dribbling it towards the goal. Unreal! Fantastic! And to add more pats on the back to the Maggies, they defeated Seymour with Saad SAAD back in town and kicking a lazy 10 to take his season's tally to 69. Up at Mansfield the home club scored a good win over Echuca, kicking 19.18 (132) to the Murray Bombers 8.7 (55). Simon HART is going through a purple patch by kicking another 7 and being named the Eagles best. After the very disappointing non display by the Swans in the Reserves game at Rochester, the home side Rochy won 18.22 (130) to 9.8 (62). Heath AITKEN and Ash WATSON were named the Tigers best. At Deakin Reserve on Saturday, the Shepparton United Demons recorded a 41 point victory over the Shepparton Bears. United won 13.13 (91) to 7.8 (50). Tom ROBERTS at Centre Half Forward for the Demons kicked 3 and was named his teams Best Player along with Phil CARROLL who could be a smokey for the Morrison. Campbell MARX and Rhys O'SULLIVAN were named Shepp's best. Robbie OSBORNE slotted 7 for the Mooroopna Cats, Luke SOFI bagged 5 in their 94 point win over Benalla - Mooroopna 23.15 (153) to 10.9 (69). Ricky SYMES kicked 6 for the Saints, Brendan STEVENS 3. Things were a bit tighter at Tatura with the visitors lasting to win 20.11 (131) to 16.11 (107). The Bombers shared the goals around with Paul NEWMAN, Scott BEATTIE and David O'SULLIVAN each popping 5 through the big sticks. Paul KIRBY kicked 5 for the Bulldogs and was named in his teams best along with Linc WELLINGTON and Ben COSGRIFF. From all reports the Bulldogs would not have lost any admirers with their fighting effort and still appear to be a major player in the fight for the flag. David WILLIAMS will also have a big say in whats what over the next two months by him having a big influence on his youngsters and has again unveileld another beautie in Jake REEVES up from the Under 18's who battled valiantly up against Paul KIRBY and Tim LITTLE and from all reports did very well!
The next two week-ends are dedicated to the BEYOND BLUE FOUNDATION which is Round 15 - a Split Round with 3 games this Saturday and then 3 games on Saturday August 8th. This week-end, could Benalla defeat the Shepparton Bears over at Benalla? The Bears are hurting with a couple of their A Graders missing and Benalla will be busting for another win. Obviously Ricky SYMES is in good form and has been getting a good hand from Brendan STEVENS and Matthew SHARP over the last few weeks. The Swans to defeat Mansfield at Princess Park ? Nuh! Echuca to defeat Seymour up on the banks of the Mighty Murray? Remember that both Shepp and Seymour have to win to claim 6th spot and play finals. Seymour at present hold 6th spot by a healhty 23.03% but it is the 4 Premiership points that count to both clubs - not percentage. The selections are :- Shepparton - Mansfield and Seymour.
Next week-end Saturday 8th August - Kyabram play Mooroopna (possibly a night game?), Shepp United host Rochester at Deakin Reserve and Euroa take on Tatura at the Memorial Oval.
Until then, whatever you do - enjoy!
