Another week of exceptional footy was witnessed in the Speed Field Days Mallee Football League
Beulah s Woomelang Lascelles
Beulah was at home to Woomelang Lascelles and was determined not to let the cats into the game at any stage. With a blistering start the Blues banged on 5 goals 5 to the Cats solitary goal. The second quarter was a more even affair with the Cats holding the Blues to 3 goals 2 while adding 3 goals 1 to their score. The third quarter the Blues flexed their muscles and dominated the quarter kicking 8 goals 5 to the Cats 2 goals 1. With Jacob Percy (7 goals) busy up forward along with Kim Hallam (6 goals) the Blues had to much fire power. The last quarter was the same again as the Blues rammed home the goals. The final siren sounded and the Blues won 22 goals 16 points to the Cats 7 goals 5 points.
Tom Hallam, Jacob Percy, Dale Shannon and Rory Shannon were best for Beulah while Kade Schack, Travis James, Joel Donnan and Ned Duthie were best for Woomelang.
Jeparit/Rainbow Vs Hopetoun
Hopetoun travelled to Jeparit to take on the Lakers and the home side were first to settle kicking 5 goals 4 to the Devils 1 goal 1 in the first quarter. In the second quarter Hopetoun regained control and with steady pressure and accurate kicking they cut Jeparit Rainbows lead to a solitary point at half time. The third quarter saw a fairly even arm wrestle with the game tightened right up. With limited opportunities to score both sides tried valiantly. The three quarter time score had the Lakers leading 9 goals 7 to the Devils 8 goals 6. Hopetoun finished the last quarter full of running and with better accuracy in front of goal they finish all over the Lakers kicking 5 goals 2 to the Lakers 1 goal 4. Final scores were Hopetoun 13 goals 8 points defeating Jeparit Rainbow 10 goals 11 points.
Jordan Phelan kicked 4 for the Devils while Peter Weir kicked 4 for the Lakers as well.
Liam Price, Coleman Schache, Leigh Hutchinson and James Heenan stood out for the Devils while Ash Clugston, Heath Clugston, Corey Price and Lucas Edelsten were best for the Lakers.
Walpeup/Underbool Vs Ouyen United
Walpeup Underbool hosted their nearest neighbors’ and arch rivals Ouyen United in an interesting battle. Ouyen were smarting after a humiliating loss last week and were intent on regaining some respectability. Ouyen coach O’Shannessy was under a cloud early in the week not being able to train but he put paid to the rumour with an artful display resulting in seven majors. Despite Walpeup/Underbool jumping out to an early lead they were soon pegged back after a concerted effort from Ouyen United in the second Quarter. Ouyen United blasted out of the blocks in the third quarter with a searing assault kicking 5 goals 4 to a paltry 2 goals 1 from the home side. It appeared that the home side was not taking advantage of their home ground. Ouyen United continued the assault in the last with a masterful 5 goals 5 to Walpeup Underbool’s 2 goals 3. Final Scores being Ouyen United 16 goals 15 to Walpeup Underbool 11 goals 9.
Walpeup Underbool’s attempt at a Brisbane Lions like three peat is under serious pressure and they will need a concerted effort to regain lost form. All impartial observers agree that there previous form is never far away and they must be a serious threat when finals action starts.
Walpeup Underbool was best served by many of the usual suspects in Jim Wakefield, Scott Munro and Kane Munro. Ouyen United likewise had evergreens in their best such as Wayne Grace, Danny O’Bree and Brenton Jardine.
