Very big matches are being played this week in the Speed Field Days Mallee Football League. Ouyen United’s second position on the ladder could be in strife.
Jeparit/Rainbow Vs Hopetoun
Hopetoun will play away at Jeparit this week against Jeparit/Rainbow. Hopetoun had a strong win against the Lakers in their last match. The Devils worked hard and kept a good lead on Jeparit/Rainbow all four quarters. Hopetoun played Beulah in what was an extremely tough match. The Devils were wining in the first quarter, followed by, losing in the second quarter, and then going on to lead in the third quarter. The last quarter saw that the Blues were too strong for Hopetoun and Beulah won the match by 10 points. Tyler Saunders worked hard for the Devils. Jeparit/Rainbow had the bye last week. In their previous match, the Lakers had a similar match to Hopetoun’s last game where the Lakers were losing in the first and third quarters against Woomelang/Lascelles. Jeparit/Rainbow made some good play in the last quarter which got them over the line. Jeparit/Rainbow should win the match when they play at home against Hopetoun.
Beulah Vs Woomelang/Lascelles
Beulah are playing their match at home this week when they play Woomelang/Lascelles. In their last match against each other, the Blues had a win beating the Cats by 38 points. Beulah had a close one against Hopetoun last week. The Blues kept working all match to then finally get on a roll in the last quarter booting 5 goals and 3 points to the Devils 1 goal and 4 points. The Blues’ Steph Saunders was an excellent player all four quarters. Woomelang/Lascelles had a loss to Walpeup/Underbool last Saturday. The Cats had a strong first quarter kicking 5 goals to the Roos 4 goals and 3 points. Ryan Tierney was strong for the Cats. Beulah have had many good matches against the three of the top sides in this season. They should account for Woomelang/Lascelles.
Walpeup/Underbool Vs Ouyen United
Walpeup/Underbool will play at home against Ouyen United this Saturday. The last time these two sides played, the crowd was in awe as they watched on. Great play by both sides made for a very exciting match. Ouyen United won the game by only 1 point. The Demons played their last match against Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers. Ouyen United had a strong first quarter kicking the first 5 goals of the match. Unfortunately the Tigers were too good and the Demons lost the match. Dean Jardine played well for Ouyen United. Walpeup/Underbool had a fantastic win against Woomelang/Lascelles last week. The Roos were down at the end of the first quarter but then put the pressure on and came out with a big win over the Cats. Brady Charles played a great game for the Roos. Ouyen United is only 2 points in front of Walpeup/Underbool. If the Roos win the match, then they take the Demons’ second place on the ladder, however, if Ouyen United win, then they will be 6 points in front which is more than a games worth. The match is too close to predict a winner.
Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers have the bye.
