Crocs forward leads the way in front of goalsTHE Groote Eylandt Football League's first Angurugu derby has provided footy fans there an early look into what's shaping up as a close race among team-mates in the league's goal-kicking.
The Angurugu Crocs' Carl Lalara jumped to the lead of the GEFL's goals tally with 13 from just three games, one ahead of team-mate Robbie Murrungun.
Despite his side's loss to same-town team the Tigers last weekend, Lalara edged ahead in the race to top the tally with two majors to take his tally to 13. Robbie Murrungun missed last weekend's match but he's just one goal shy on 12, while the Tigers' Nevil Nunggumajbarr and Alyangula Swans' Matty Jones each have 11 goals. Robbie's brother Joquinn, who plays with the Tigers, booted two goals last round and has seven so far.
The Tigers' win at the weekend has elevated the Angurugu side above the Crocs on the league ladder; their second win placing them in second place, behind the undefeated Umbakumba Lions.
