Committee of Management Update – July 2009

Hello to All Members

The Board is currently focusing on the following areas of strategic change and improvement. We believe it is important to identify areas of concern and to stick to those areas until they have improved to an acceptable level before tackling the next issue. This may mean that areas that are important to particular groups are not addressed immediately however our resources are limited and our role is to focus those resources where we believe we can get the best results. That being said, please don’t hesitate to let us know if you have any ideas or areas of concern. We will certainly bring them to the Board table for discussion.

Junior Domestic Participation

·         Lucas Allen & Leah French have settled into their roles as Junior Development / Participation Managers. The Aussie Hoops program has over 50 children participating while over 1,500 kids have attended clinics from a variety of schools. ‘Come and try’ days will be held this term as well. However, the measure of success will be shown by the number of kids that go on to join clubs and play in the junior domestic competition. We will monitor these results in an endeavour to put our resources in the areas that will give us the best outcome.

Senior Domestic Participation

·         This is our next area of concentration and we will be looking to appoint a Senior Competition Participation Manager/s to improve numbers. Part of the role will include contacting current & former players to form teams as well as contacting neighbouring associations / towns to encourage entries. We will look at restructuring the competitions to form an A Grade competition as well as a social A Grade competition followed by other grades, depending on numbers and demand. The viability of a Veterans competition (over 35 or 40 for example) will also be reviewed. If you are interested or know of someone who might fit the role please contact one of the Board members.

Referees Participation & Development

·         Recruitment & retention of referees as well as providing training will be the next area addressed in conjunction with the Referees Committee to increase referee numbers and help the continual improvement of our existing referees.

Constitutional Changes

·         A Special General Meeting on Wednesday 13 May 2009 authorised a number of changes to the constitution including increasing Board size from 5 to 8 members, 2 year terms, inclusion of a grievance procedure, clean up of typographical errors and deletion of obsolete clauses. 3 of the 4 vacant Board positions were filled with some interest currently shown in the final position, however, please let one of the Board members know if you have an interest in joining the Board.
