On a beautiful day at the Cattery and with the Cats fielding their strongest side of the year, they went to the ground quietly confident. When they saw that the Saints had arrived with their most under strength team of the year their hopes were further boosted. Unfortunately for the Cats this is where it ended for them. The Saints took control of the game from the outset kicking 3 goals in the opening 5 minutes of play. From there they piled on another 9 goals for the quarter to the Cats 1 goal to have a 69 point lead at the first break. The shell shocked Cats were better in the second quarter with both teams kicking 3 goals each for the quarter. But it should have been much worse for the Cats as the Saints wayward kicking crept back in, with them kicking 8 behinds as well, taking a 76point lead into the long break. The Saints Darren Pithers went off in the second quarter with a shoulder injury he sustained in the first quarter from a big hit he put on the Cats. Unfortunately for the Saints Pithers did not come back on for the rest of the game and will be assessed during the week for next week. The third quarter saw the Saints continue on their merry way but still with inaccurate kicking. The Saints kicked 7 goals 8 behinds for the quarter to the Cats 2 goals giving the Saints a huge 114 point lead at the last break. The Saints showed no mercy in the last quarter going for the jugular by restricting the Cats to just 3 behinds and putting on 9 goals 8 behinds themselves. In the end it was the Saints highest away score and their greatest away winning margin (173 points) and proved that they like the Kangaroos last week have not yet lost that premiership hunger. The Saints gave their best player as Mick Viney with 11 goals (his first bag of 10 or more in a game) and he was well aided by Joe Kimmince with 6 goals and Peter Heath with 5 goals. For the Cats their main avenue to goal was the old comeback kid himself Adam White with 3 goals and their best player was Grant Ellis with young Jackson Bower (14) showing that if the Cats can get some more kids like him then their future is bright. Over all though it was a 5 goal improvement for the Cats over the last time these 2 teams met.
