KINGSLEY VERSUS T&DJFL – 7th JULY, 2009
The Kingsley versus T&DJFL was held yesterday and again was a great success. The day started off well with the sun shining. It was an early start for Southside as we were at the ground in the morning marking the oval, preparing the food and generally cleaning up our club rooms so as to represent the league in the best way we could. We also put up photos of last years premier teams and best and fairest winners and the league ladders to date. These went down well with both sides stopping to look at them.
The T&DJFL arrived under the amazing leadership of Noel Hawkins and his coaching staff. All 35 of the players were very excited and eager for the game of footy. The Kingsley team arrived, they had 11 coaching staff and 35 players (very tall ones at that). All were made to feel welcome and then we did team photos from both sides and of course the umpires. The game was played as 6 X 15minute quarters so as to make sure every player got a good run. The game was great to watch with some amazing skills shown from both teams. Kingsley ended up winning the day
30 27 207 to 1 7 13.
All the players received a sports drink after the game kindly donated by Aygee. Our boys should be very proud of their efforts as Kingsley play together as a team week in and week out and our boys were thrown together with only 1 training run.
After the match all players went and cleaned up and were invited back to Southside for dinner. We provided both teams with hot beef and pork rolls, chips, a can of drink and cake for dessert. It all went down very well.
We then had presentations, Geoff Cooper made a great speech and every Kingsley player was presented with a T&DJFL cap and coaching staff with a T&DJFL stubby holder. Kingsley had arranged 6 awards for our players. Unfortunately a lot of the T&DJFL players did not come back for presentations, but six of our players were presented with a football jumper and a polo shirt. Southside had arranged 4 certificates for umpire’s awards and these were given to two players from each team as selected by the umpires. Kingsley also made a special presentation of a perpetual shield. This was amazing and truly showed they are very keen to keep this as an on going annual event.
Over all the day was a great success. Kingsley was extremely grateful for all that we had done and I had players and coaches coming up to me all night thanking us for our hospitality. This showed as they stayed for quite a while enjoying the atmosphere.
Lastly I would like to thank all the Southside families who came to help out during the day and the night, without their hard work the day would no have been such a great success for the League.
Thanks
