Round 12 was played in wet, cold windy conditions this week in the Speed Field Days Mallee Football League.
Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers Vs Beulah
Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers played hosts to Beulah at Culgoa and led all day. Beulah kicked with the wind in the first but failed to capitalize and allowed the tigers to kick 3 goals against the wind. With the Tiger onballers moving the ball quickly out of the centre saw them bang on five more goals to Beulah’s one in the second term. After the halftime break Beulah came out firing keeping the Tigers scoreless and booting three goals themselves to bring the margin back to 5 goals difference. The last quarter was an even contest with both teams battling with a wet heavy ball and scoring 2 goals each. For the Tigers, Darcy Ryan played a tough hard game winning many possessions. Tom Summerhayes and Col Durie were good on ball and up forward and Corey Stadon was solid across half back. Dale Shannon for the Blues was superb with a best on ground performance and was well supported by Tom Hallam, Steph Saunders and Mark Williams.
Woomelang/Lascelles Vs Jeparit/Rainbow
Woomelang/Lascelles hosted Jeparit Rainbow in what was a very even contest. Getting away to a good start the Cats led 4 goals 1 to the Lakers 2 goals 2. In the second term the Lakers took control but were wasteful in front of goal. Keeping the Cats scoreless for the quarter they held a handy lead at half time. The third term saw Woomelang/Lascelles come back kicking 5 goals 4 to the Lakers 2 goals 2 to take the lead and set up an exciting last quarter but it wasn’t to be as the Lakers steadied kicking 3 goals 3 to the Cats 4 points. Luke Werner continued his good form being best for the Lakers with the reliable Cory Price and Heath and Ash Clugston all playing well. Joel Donnan worked hard for the Cats along with his brother Trent and were well supported by Ryan Tierney and Royce Free.
Walpeup/Underbool Vs Hopetoun
After a couple of losses in a row, Walpeup/Underbool was fired up for a great game against Hopetoun. The first quarter saw them take control of the game and kick 8 goals 2 to the Devils 1 goal 1. To their credit the Devils steadied in the second term and kicked 2 goals 3 to the Roos 1 goal 3. The third quarter was also good for the Devils adding 3 goals 3 while keeping the Roos scoreless and they were right back in it. The fourth quarter was an even battle with both sides scoring 2 goals 1 each. The Roos winning by 16 points in what was a very even battle. Chris Vorwerk led by example for the Roos who were also well served by Scott Munro, Jim Wakefield and Chris Lynch. Hopetoun’s Owen Hone continued on with his good form with support from Coleman Schache, Liam Price and L Gainsford.
