A fantastic day down at Seymour last Saturday with the Lions getting the 4 points and getting back into the finals hunt with a thrilling 4 point victory over Rochester. The Seymour club did a marvellous job in hosting the great man Ron BARASSI who was the guest speaker at the pre-game luncheon put on by the VCFL and Work Safe in the Match of the Month. And then for the Lions to get up in the last minute was so fitting for the Seymour people. Well Done! The final score was :- Seymour 11.10 (76) to Rochester 10.12 (72) with Paul COLBERT from Seymour being unanimously selected as the best on ground who received his medal from Barass. The Lions were behind all day but then the Tigers began running out of a bench and then Brendan LIDDELL kicked truly from a very tight angle right in the last minute. Saad SAAD kicked 4 (all in the 2nd half) to now be a real chance to win the True Boot award as he is now on 52 goals, Damien YZE on 54 and Paul NEEWMAN has 55 after kicking 3 against Benalla. Carl MOON and Heath AITKEN were named the Tigers best. With Shepparton's loss to Mansfield the next day Seymour have now got into 6th spot but are level with the Bears on 24 points each but enjoy a 15% buffer. Mooroopna recorded a good win over Echuca 14.19 (103) to 8.9 (57) - Brad LOWE and Nathan TWEDDLE were named the Cats best while Echuca defender Andrew BRIGGS was named his sides best after keeping Robbie OSBORNE goal less. It looks like Paul KIRBY may be back in town with a 6 goal haul against the Shepparton Swans in Tatura's win 21.9 (135) to 8.5 (53) - Alex ISAILOVIC was named the Bullies best with his beautiful precision kicking. The Swans sharp shooter Damien YZE had kicked a goal but then had to leave the field with an ankle injury in the second quarter and did not return. Matt HEBBARD and Jarrod SUTHERLAND were named the Swans best. Over at the Memorial Oval the host club Euroa had their colours lowered by Shepparton United who kicked 14.14 (98) to 10.10 (70) - the Demons played a 15 year old by name of Mat DUFFY from straight out of the thirds who held his own and won the hard ball up forward - from all reports a terrific debut and a performance which should put a smile on the Demons faces as he is believed to be a real talent from very good stock - he is a nephew of former United player Ross DUFFY. It seems to be that Ryan BUTLER had really arrived as a GVFL player of quality as he was again named United's best player along with Clinton EDWARDS. Cameron THYER and Andrew DOXEY were named as the Maggies better players. This would have been a terrific game to have been at with the exciting youngsters from both clubs going head to head. Kyabram recorded a 103 point win over the hapless Saints from Benalla - Kyabram scored 24.14 (158) to Benalla 8.7 (55) - the reigning Morrison Medalist Linc WITHERS would nearly have to be a good bet to go back to back with the Morrison as he was named the Bombers best yet again along with full back Josh VICK. Ricky SYMES kicked 3 of the Saints 8 goals. It took the Mansfield Eagles all of the first half to get going against Shepparton at Deakin on Sunday. Shepp were up by a point at 1/4 time, Mansfield up by a point at 1/2 time but then Mansfield kicked 13.13 in the second half to Shepp's 4.4. Final score was Mansfield 18.16 (124) to Shepparton 8.12 (60). Simon HART kicked 6, Jamie SHEAHAN kicked 4 and they had a full team of very good players whereas Shepp. were really feeling the loss of Ed CLARKE and Marc HARRP - Tim FELDTMAN was named the Bears best as he never stopped trying.
The Round 12 matchs are Highlighted as the BLUE RIBBON Round of footy. The Mooroopna and Shepparton Swans have really excelled with the promotion of this game over the last few years and will again co-operate with Sergeant Peter LAW from Shepparton Police in promoting this wonderful cause on Sunday over at Mooroopna as the Cats host the Swans. Home clubs named first with the winners underlined Mooroopna should be able to account for the Swans at their home ground and with good players in form whereas the Swans may go in without Damien YZE. Euroa should account for Benalla with their exciting youngsers but if a few more Saints could stand up and get the ball to Ricky SYMES then Benalla could record their first win. Seymour at home to Kyabram - the Lions must win to play finals and they have the COLBERT boys. Shepparton United should feel confident against Tatura but perhaps the Bulldogs with their experience should prevail. This could be a real good game. A flip of the coin to decide between Shepparton and Echuca, the Bears will be busting to get back in the 6. Probably the predicted match of the round will be over at Rochester when they take on the flying Eagles. The Tige's will go into this game with a big cloud over several of their players i.e., Ben DEUSCHER, Chris McCARTY and Matt LETCHER but have Jack GIVNEY returning from a week's rest. The Eagles were very impressive against Shepparton and may have David MENSCH back. The Eagles youngsters in Jamie SHEAHAN, Adam BOSHEVSKI and Brett MAHONEY are good a trio of youngsters as any club may have.
