Some surprises last week with 5 out of Euroa's 6 best players all teenagers in their terrific win over the Shepparton Swans. Euroa 15.16 (106) defeated the Swans 13.10 (88). The highlight of the day would have to have been the performance of Jamie ELLIOTT who up to last Saturday had been playing with the Maggies Under 16's! Despite Damien YZE kicking 6 the young Magpies lead all day at Princess Park and no doubt will be looking forward to taking on Shepp United at Memorial Oval this Saturday. Even some of Kyabram's supporters believe that Shepp United were a bit stiff to lose to Ky. at Deakin as it seems the Demons were up by a few points with only a few minutes left on the clock but as good sides can do, the Bombers found that little bit left in the tank to rattle on a point and then two quick goals. Final score was Kyabram 9.8 (62) to United 7.8 (50). Phil CARROLL did a terrific job on Paul NEWMAN to keep Newmo down to 2 goals who now trails the Swans Damien YZE by one solitary goal - 53 to 52. Chris ATKINS was named the Bombers best. Rochester had a big win over Shepparton who missed several A grade players and then lost Ed CLARKE to injury in the second quarter. Big Elliott BOWEN must love Deakin as he popped 5 through the big sticks in the Tigers tally of 19.9 (111) to Shepparton 8.8 (56). Guy CAMPBELL was named the Tiger's best, Chris CULLINAN and Tim FELDTMAN were the Bears best. The high flying Eagles love their own dung hill and play it almost to perfection. Mansfield defeated Mooroopna 20.18 (138) to 13.6 (84) - it appears someone has recorded Nick GIESCHEN with having had 66 disposals of the footy. This makes a bloke think that if he is on a quid then he has certainly earned his pay against the Cats. Some players have 15 touches and have had a very good day. 66 possies equates to about 16 disposals per quarter. Wow! And to think Mansfield have named Ben MILLOTT, Simon HART and Ross HOPKINS as their best 3! Echuca scored a 4 point victory over Tatura with 17 year old Murray Bomber Matt COSTELLO kicking truly just before the final siren. This was Matt's 3rd goal for the game in a very tough, physical game marred by the wind and rain which made it very hard to score throughout the day. Echuca won 9.8 (62) to 8.10 (58). Simon MADDOX and Brendan PRENDERGAST were named Echuca's best while Tim LITTLE and Ben COSGRIFF were named as the Bulldogs best. Poor old Ricky SYMES has done it again - battled his guts out for Benalla to kick 6 of their 7 goals. Seymour won comfortably 14.25 (109) to Benalla 7.3 (45) - Saad SAAD kicked 4 with Brendan LIDDELL and Paul COBERT booting 3 and being named as the Lions best. What more can you say about Ricky who was named the Saints best again.
Due to a soccer game being played at Deakin Reserve in Shepparton on Saturday, the Shepparton Bears host Mansfield on Sunday. I hope all the silly lines can be removed prior to our game being played. Home teams named first, winners underlined. Shepparton v Mansfield, Kyabram v Benalla, Euroa v Shepparton United, Tatura v Shepparton Swans, Mooroopna v Echuca and in the VCFL Work-Safe game of the Month with Ron BARASSI in attendence, Seymour v Rochester. Seymour almost have to win to keep their finals hopes alive. The games at Seymour with the great man Barass present promise to be real beauties - in the Reserves Seymour are top of the ladder with 9 wins and one loss, Rochy are next with 8 wins and 2 losses and in 3 of the 4 grades of netball the Lions and Tigers are neck and neck.
