A very fitting game for Ron BARASSI to witness; a replay of last years Grand Final where the Tigers from Rochester stopped the Lions from Seymour winning 4 flags on the trot. It was at Deakin Reserve, Shepparton on Sunday 28th September 2008 where the Tigers got up in the last quarter to win by 3 points. The Lions were in front all day and lead 11.14 (80) to 9.7 (61) at 3/4 time but in the final quarter Rochy kicked 6 goals 2 behinds to Seymour's 2 goals 4 behinds. The final score was :- Rochester 15.9 (99) to Seymour 13.18 (96) - 24 scoring shots to 31! Elliott BOWEN was outstanding for the Premiers kicking 7 goals - Seymour's best were Paul SCANLON who is now with the Bendigo Bombers in the V.C.F.L. and Rodney Van REIT who is playing in the Essendon & District F.L.
Barass regularly attends VCFL WorkSafe games. Ronald Dale BARASSI wearing the famous No. 31 jumper played in 6 premierships with the Melbourne Demons before he went to Carlton and began coaching. He coached Carlton to two flags and then coached North Melbourne to two flags. No doubt Ronald Dale is an absolute legend of the game. Ron will address a luncheon that is to be hosted by the VCFL and WorkSafe Victoria prior to the game which will be attended by local businesses, club and league sponsors, League representatives and Life Members and local footy supporters. Ron will then mingle with the crowd and then after the Senior footy game and A Grade netball game he will present specially struck WorkSafe cups to the victors. The VCFL C.E.O., Mr Glenn SCOTT reports "the WorkSafe Games of the Month program is now in its 7th year and has been very popular since the inception and is a very definite highlight of the VCFL WorkSafe calendar. It is always fantastic to have AFL Legend Ron BARASSI in attendance at these matches."
If you can possibly get to Seymour on Saturday you should do so, the day promises to be a beauty! Who do you think will win? The Tigers or the Lions?
