Round 10 Player of the Week - QBL Men - Scott McGregor

The Gold Coast Goannas Scott McGregor has been at the top of his game for almost 15 years.  Stemming back to the AIS in 1994, McGregor has been a leading name in the sport and his current efforts in the 2009 QBL suggests this is set to continue.

He has amassed medals from World Junior Championships, named as the NBL Rookie of the Year (1996), played for Australia in the East Asian and Goodwill Games, fought it out in NBL Grand Finals, played 2 years in the New Zealand NBL, was a member of the 05/06 NBL Aussie All Star team, and has been a key figure in the Gold Coast Blaze’s fight for a Championship since they joined the National League in 2007.

The fact that he is a currently ranked as a Top 10 rebounder and assister in the QBL speaks volumes for his longevity in basketball.  The Goannas were feeling the pain heading into Round 10 with the team on a run of 5 losses.  Facing an undernourished Ipswich Force team on Saturday night, McGregor showed quality all round play and picked up 21pts @ 43%, 11rbs, 6asts, 2stls, 3blks with the team winning 3 of the 4 quarters to finish in-front (98-76).  He then backed this up on Sunday with a sneak peak at a possible Quarter Final in Pool C with the Goannas taking on the Pirates.  McGregor led the charge once again and was rewarded with 30pts @ 52% hitting 4 of 9 three’s, 10rbs, 7asts, 2stls to put the team back into the winners circle which see’s them jump one place on the ladder to 8th and in a better position to secure the rights to host a final.  Scott McGregor is named the QBL Player of the Week.  Click here to view his QBL playing history

Elsewhere in the QBL, Michael Cedar led the Townsville Heat to a 3 and 0 weekend in Brisbane with 17pts @ 55%, 6rbs, 7asts, 2stls in 16 mins in game one, 35pts, 4rbs, 4asts, 2stls in game two and 25pts, 4rbs, 1ast, 2stls in game three; Martin Ajayi continues to fly the Canadian flag for the Caboolture Suns and picked up a 2-game 73pts, 14rbs, 2asts, 7stls – he was the highest scorer for the round with a 47pt haul on Sunday against the Heat; Dante Sykes of the Clippers nearly created a huge upset with the team pushing the Heat to the brink of collapse – he walked away with 32pts including 6 of 12 three’s, 6rbs, 4asts, 2stls; Anthony Susnjara was super productive on the Brisbane triple-header averaging 21ppg, 13rpg, 1.3apg for the Heat on a 32min average; and full praise to the Rockhampton Rockets who walked away victors from the Saturday night 1 v 2 clash against the Cairns Marlins with it now looking like their Round 15 clash will determine who will collect the minor premiership and skip the Quarter Finals.
