Six goals by Werribee forward Nathan Thompson led the Tigers to a convincing victory - its 2nd against the Hawks for the season.
A shoot-out goal for goal in the first half, it was three late Tiger goals in red-time in the third that proved too much for the Hawks.
Apart from Thompson’s dominant play up forward, Werribee ruckman Todd Goldstein had 42 hit outs 3 goals and Leigh Adams 23 possessions were their best.
Beau Dowler - 27 disposals, 2 goals - was impressive from the out-set and starred in a game the Hawks would rather forget.
The Box Hill Hawks led at the opening change by 3 points but the loss of Hawthorn ruckman Brent Renouf at the 4th minute of the second term proved fatal for the Hawks.
Coach Brendan Bolton soon had headaches as Werribee kept pace with eight goals to the half, with five goals belonging to Nathan Thompson.
Breaking away, Werribee marched to a 13 point lead mid-way through the third.
Greater run provided by Co-Captain Steve Kenna in his 50th game for Box Hill in the 4th gave the Hawks a revival. But Werribee continued to reply to the Hawks answers, running out victorious.
Late misses proved costly which possibly could have seen the Hawks closer with enough time due to the game’s lengthy duration.
Statistically, Box Hill Hawks led Werribee with kicks and handballs but better use of the football may have shown a different story.
Werribee’s greater intensity and hunger for the football played out the 2nd half leading the side to victory.
Werribee Tigers break their drought winning away with their 1st victory on the road from Chirnside Park this season.
North Melbourne’s Matt Riggio and rookie Alan Obst were very impressive for Werribee.
Hawthorn recruits Jordan Lisle 4 goals and Liam Shiels after a heavy hit in the 2nd term courageously led from the front through the middle with 24 disposals.
Lukas Markovic again stood up in defence; likewise around the ground Tim Walsh 19 hit outs who shared ruck duties with Cameron Pedersen 16 hit outs, 1 goal.
Box Hill’s winning streak at Box Hill City Oval comes to a halt. Clinging to 4th position on the VFL Ladder, the Hawks face Geelong at Skilled Stadium in Round 12 while Werribee face ladder leaders Williamstown at Chirnside Park in a western suburbs showdown.
