Hopetoun VS Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers
Sea Lake/Nandaly Tigers travelled to Hopetoun and were never really tested. Hopetoun were in a must win situation and although they fought hard they were never really in the game. The tigers were led superbly by their on ball brigade particularly Darcie Ryan and Scott Weekly who seemed to find the ball at will. Leigh Hutchinson played a lone hand for Hopetoun in the middle and late in the game he was a focal point up front. Bill Barnes was a focal point for Hopetoun early but was required in defence to try and kerb the Tigers tall forwards. Nathan Wight was unstoppable at full forward finishing with 9 majors in a dominate display of forward play. Other good players for the Tigers were Karl Bibby on a wing and Liam Barry who was in everything. Hopetoun was well served by Cook in the ruck who battled manfully against the odds. Steve Hallum battled hard in attack and defence and Liam Price was a 4 quarter contributor. The final score was Sea Lake/Nandaly Tigers 21.15.141 to Hopetoun 11.5.71.
Jeparit/Rainbow VS Walepeup/Underbool
Mallee powerhouse Walpeup/Underbool beaten by bottom rung side. Jeparit/Rainbow welcomed Walpeup/Underbool to Jeparit and for the Roos it was try and catch up. The Lakers took an early lead and were never headed. Beaten easily by the Tigers last game the Lakers met the Roos head on. Ash Clugston’s form has been brilliant and with Andrew Hiscock starting to fire the Lakers were in top gear. Under constant pressure Jim Wakefield tried to stem the flow and with Kane Munro in attack the Roos came hard in the second term but Heath Clugston, Damien Chester and Dean Shuman running hot the Lakers were in control. The final score was Jeparit/Rainbow 16.9.105 to Walpeup/Underbool 11.9.75.
Best players:
Jeparit/Rainbow: Ash Clugston, Andrew Hiscock, Heath Clugston, Dan Chester, Michael Eckermann and Dan Schumann
Walpeup/Underbool: Kane Munro, Michael Pole, Todd Brown, John Heber Smith and Luke Nathan
Ouyen United VS Beulah
Beulah took the trek up to Ouyen to take on a confident Ouyen side. After knocking off the reigning premiers the Demons would have been expected to win. As we all know a week is a long time in football and every week is a new challenge. The Beulah side has grown a leg in recent weeks and although the names in the best players list don’t seem to change much they are certainly playing an exciting brand of football. After trailing in the first quarter Beulah took control in the second 7 goals 3 to 3 goals 2. Jarred Combe and Jake Percy were a focal point though out the game and kept Ouyen United defenders busy. Sam Martin for the second week in a row was a dominant player for the blues. Ouyen was best served up forward by Chris Gerkens who snagged 5 in a good effort. As usual Brenton Jardine was a solid contributor. The veteren defender Jarrod Munro was once again a fantastic defender.
The final score was the Blues 17.15.117 to Ouyen United 14.15.99.
Best for Beulah: S. Martin, J. Dixon, M. Williams and T. Hallam
Best for Ouyen United: B. Jardine, P. Caldow, C. O’Callaghan, J. Vallance
