With the half way mark of the season passing us by, it is down to four to fight it out.
Maryborough would appear to be out of the race and would be looking at developing their juniors in anticipation for the 2010 season. Having picked up some quality recruits and hosting some improving juniors, it was always going to be hard to replace the players that were missing from the 2008 team. With learning and developing being the priority, we should see some closely contested games as the season tapers off. Mickelo, Walker, Hannam, Sheehan and the O'brien boys have been the consistent performers so far.
Bay Power started the season as the bolters of the competition, only to come to a crashing thud as sides treated them as true threats to the mantle. Possibly just lacking the depth of the three teams above them, their quality players match any other side in the competition. They started the season with 3 wins in four games and have only beaten Maryborough since then. Coach Charlie Johnstone will be searching for another four wins to cement a finals position but will keeping an eye on the first week of the finals and what he needs to do for that week. The Krohn boys, Neshoda, Blackwell and Hamilton will need more assistance to take the next step
Across The Waves can consider themselves the unlucky team so far this season. The ladder tells us that they have lost four games this season but three of them have been by less than a kick and could have been different stories. Proven performers, being last years Premiers, there would be no pushing the panic button yet with a top two position being the only aim. Possibly the quickest side in the comp, they would be looking at the big fella's to stand up in the second part of the year. Power has been outstanding, along with Blair, Orr and the ever youthful Stone
The Bombers would be packing away all their ladders and mirrors and hoping that some luck will go their way for a different reason. They have been ravaged by injury and a number of them serious. Considering the fact that they are sitting in second spot with all the injuries would be pleasing to their new coach Corey Goldie. With quality users of the ball and some experienced campaigners, they will be just starting to look towards the run home. Neshoda, Lavey, McConnel and leading goal kicker Goldie have been the leaders on the paddock and will be looking forward to the return of more of their team mates.
Brothers would be happy with their start to the season with only a loss to the Bay Power boys up to the half way mark. Riding on the back of their youth, their energy has allowed the Brothers to win the close games and set themselves up for the run home. Winning their home games in the second half of the year will almost certainly see them qualify in the top two and cement the double chance. The late addition of leading goal kicker contender Jenner has straightened the boys up and given them direction. Dempsey, Goldsmith and Steemson provide the youth to add to Sheehan and Modra's experience.
Good luck to all for the second half of the season!!
