Flames serious contenders again

Competition has never been so tight in the Women’s QBL.   The Townsville Flames have dominated in recent years going onto collect State and National Championships in both 2007 and 2008.  This year though, the pace is increasing every Round as 4 teams in Pool A vy for what will most probably be only 3 positions available.  Rockhampton, Townsville, Gladstone and Mackay are by far the strongest 4 teams of the League as at Round 8, with atleast one of these teams on-track to be handed a big bag of disappointment come the end of the regular season when they dip out on the play-offs.

Over the weekend the Townsville Flames showed why they are the defending State Champ’s as they blew the Gold Coast Gliders apart by 28pts (86-58).  The team collectively shot at 50% from the field with Dalgleish increasing her net worth in this League and for the upcoming WNBL with 24pts, 4rbs, 3asts, 2stls, 1blk to lead the Flames.  Fantastic team play by Page (pictured above) with 8pts, 3rbs, 6asts, 3stls with the home team storming home in the final quarter 24-8 to farewell the Gliders from their northern road trip.

The Women’s QBL is bursting with talent this year – more Opals, WNBL players and Americans than any other season.  This adds up to some incredibly exciting basketball for QBL fans as the best-of-the-best try to position their teams for a clean run all the way to the big State Final.
