The Queen’s Birthday weekend brought with it some very exciting games in the Speed Field Days Mallee Football League. There was a one-sided match played, a close game and a down to the wire clash to make a very riveting week of football.
Hopetoun Vs Jeparit/Rainbow
Hopetoun were just too good when they played home to Jeparit/Rainbow. The first quarter had the Lakers trailing behind as the Devils kicked 4 goals to Jeparit/Rainbow’s 1. The second quarter saw both teams really struggle to score. Hopetoun booted 2 goals and the Lakers kicked 1. Jeparit/Rainbow tried so very hard to make their come-back but Hopetoun were just too good. They led at the end of the third term 5 goals 6 in front. Hopetoun increased the lead in the last quarter and won the day 12 goals 11 to the Lakers 6 goals 4. Hopetoun’s Leigh Hutchinson was a strong competitor all day. He had great support from team mates Liam Price and Jordan Phelan and Lucas Cook played a great game kicking 4 goals for the Devils. Ash Clugston worked hard for the Lakers. Health Clugston played well kicking 3 goals and Brett Fisher and Adam Roll played well all day.
Woomelang/Lascelles Vs Beulah
The Blues had a great win beating the Cats at Woomelang this weekend. The first term saw Beulah get a short lead on Woomelang/Lascelles. The Blues led 4 goals 3 to the Cats 2 goals 1. Woomelang/Lascelles worked hard in the second term to get the match back within a goal. The third term saw Beulah trying push away from the Cats. They led by another 2 goals. Beulah got away in the last quarter kicking another 4 goals to the Cats 1. The final score was the Blues 17 goals 18 to the Cats 12 goals 10. Tom Hallam from Beulah played a great game along with Sam Martin, Jonathon Dixon and Brendan McCredden. The Cats’ Joel Donnan worked hard all day. Todd Beasy kicked 3 goals. Joshua Forster and Trent Donnan also tried hard.
Ouyen United Vs Walpeup/Underbool
Ouyen United played an enthralling game at home against the Roos this week. The first quarter started and the Demons got a clear lead over Walpeup/Underbool beating them by 6 goals. The second quarter changed the game completely as the Roos exploded to kick 10 goals to the Demons 1 goal. The third quarter saw both sides try so very hard to win the ball. Ouyen United were closing in as they kicked 3 goals to the Roos 2 goals. The last quarter saw determination as the game went on. It came down to the siren and the Demons came away with the win only by 1 point. Jacob Anstey kicked a massive 8 goals for the Demons. Ben Gregg, Adam O’Callaghan and Chris Gerken all played great games. The Roos’ Nick Malinovski played well kicking 3 goals for his team. Joshua Charles, Mick Pole and Chris Lynch worked hard.
Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers had the bye.
