Andy Otten from the Adelaide Crows is the NAB AFL Rising Star nominee for Round Nine.
Andy gathered 23 disposals, seven marks and kicked his first goal at AFL level in the Crows’ comfortable 44-point win over Carlton at AAMI Stadium on Saturday.
The 20-year-old has played all nine matches this season, averaging 19 disposals and five marks as a vital link in the Crows backline.
Andy made his AFL debut as a last minute inclusion into the Crows team against Hawthorn in Round 12 last year. He played just one more senior game for the season but performed strongly with South Adelaide in the SANFL.
“We have been really pleased with Andy’s progress this year. He came to us as a tall midfielder but he has been playing in the same role Nathan Bassett did for us for a number of years, and he’s been doing it well on a consistent basis. He still has some things to learn about playing in defence but he is very coachable,” Adelaide coach Neil Craig said.
He was Adelaide’s second round selection (pick 27 overall) at the 2007 NAB AFL Draft after claiming TAC Cup Team of the Year honours and the Oakleigh Chargers best and fairest award.
Adelaide’s first selection in the 2007 NAB AFL Draft - Patrick Dangerfield - was the Round Three NAB AFL Rising Star nominee.
