In the first game of the double header at Tamworth's No.1 Oval the Kangaroos wanted to show that last week's win over the Cats had put them right back on track, but the New England Nomads had other ideas. The Kangaroos got the jump on the Nomads early leading by 25 points at quarter time. The Nomads showed in the second quarter that they are not going to lie down in any game this year, taking it right up to the Kangaroos outscoring them but not leading due to their inaccuracy in front of goal, 3 goals 8 behinds. In the third quarter the Nomads kicked straight but couldn't stem the flow at the other end with the Kangaroos kicking 4 goals 6 behinds. The last quarter saw the Nomads throw everything at the Kangaroos, but their inaccuracy was back, 1 goal 7 behinds, and the Kangaroos held their nerve kicking 4 goals straight to run out winners by 29 points. The Nomads appear to be the real deal but are not going to threaten anyone unless they can sort out their kicking at goal. This win sees the Kangaroos move into second on the ladder, only percentage keeping them out of top spot, a game clear of the Nomads in third. The final word will have to go to a Kangaroos' offcial who said they will need to play a lot better if they want to be back to back premiers.

Up at Inverell's Varley Oval the Saints were waiting to take on a Gunnedah Bulldog team who were keen to make amends for the previous week. The first quarter was just what the doctor ordered for the Bulldogs, with them jumping the Saints early and going in at quarter time with a 2 goal lead. But that is where it stopped as the Saints kicked into gear and kept the Bulldogs goal less for the second and third quarters. During this time, with Jono Elphick playing his best game of the year and Inverell's own Irish experiment Michael Corley showing that he has come a long way since last year, the Saints piled on 63 points. Bulldogs didn't through in the towel though and had one more scoring shot then the Saints in the last quarter. Again Farran Lamb stood up for the Bulldogs kicking another 3 goals and Paul brown being their best player. Mick Viney had a good return to form for the Saints kicking 4 goals. For the Bulldogs this loss means that for the first time this year they find themselves out of the top 4, to 5th, replaced by the Saints, 4th.

In the last game of the round and the second of the double header the Tamworth Swans showed no mercy to the Muswellbrook Cats handing out a 227 point thumping. This win has given the Swans top spot on the ladder by percentage and what a percentage it is, 101.43%. The Cats just had no answer to the Swans and showed they are a long way off getting back to a competitive force. The Swans were 102 points in front at half time and have been building to this since round 1. Unfortunately for the Cats they were the ones that had to cop it and takes their average losing margin to a whopping 168 points. At this point in time I don't have the player details for this game.
Swans 37 - 18 - 240
Cats 2 - 1 - 13
