Motherâs Day in Stawell proved to be a winner for the Roosters on more than one front as the North Ballarat Football Club held its second ever VFL match in the historic city.
On the field, the Roosters won both the Reserves and Senior matches, by 130 points and 91 points respectively. Off the field it was the Grampians Community Health Community Car program which was the big winner.
A total of $2,225 was raised for the Community Car program, a volunteer based transport program. A network of volunteer drivers provides transport assistance to those within the Stawell and surrounding district community. The service is available to those who find it difficult to access out of town medical and hospital services. The Community car is unfunded and a cost to the individual is incurred based on the distance travelled.
The Roosters are again opening each of their home game gates in 2009 to a local and different charity each week. The program allows the given charity to man the gates and collect a gold coin donation from patrons as they come along and see VFL football in action as well as to spread their message to all on the day.
The program, now in its fourth year, proudly supported by the Clubâs major partner, Selkirk Group of Companies and Ballarat Partner â Come to Life Ballarat, has raised over $47,000 since its inception in 2006.
Mark Patterson, CEO of the North Ballarat Football Club said that the Roosters are delighted to support local charities and the Grampians Community Health Community Car program is no exception.
âThe Club gains great satisfaction in the knowledge that we have been able to help provide this worthy program with some much needed support," Patterson commented.
"The Selkirk Roosters look forward to again having the opportunity to come to Stawell in the future and to continuing to develop the relationships which have been built between the Club and the region."
