The Cats didn't make the trip up the highway to Armidale and forfeited their match to the Nomads. The Nomads hurriedly organised an inter-r club match to get some game time in before they travel to Inverell next week. The Nomads will now be hoping keep their newly claimed topp spot on the Country Energy TAFL ladder.
Final Scores
New England Nomads won by forfeit and recieve 150 points to their for points total and nothing in their against column. The opposite is the case for the Cats.
At Tamworth's No.1 Oval, the Swans had their first win over the Inverell Saints in 2 and a half years. And what a win it was, by 50 points. At this time I don't have full match details.
Final Scores
Tamworth Swans 20-9-129
Inverell Saints 11-13-79
In the match of the round, the Gunnedah Bulldogs fought back in the last quarter against the Tamworth Kangaroos to record an 18 point victory. The Bulldogs had injuries and work commitments to contend with, and only managed to get 20 players available for the game as opposed to the Kangaroos full team of 22 players. This makes the Bulldogs' win even more impressive. The Kangaroos were on top all day leading at every break, quarter time by 13 points. The Bulldogs knew that they would not be able to wait until half time before they regrouped, like last week against the Cats, as the reigning premiers would cut them to pieces. So they started clawing back the score but it could have better for them had they kicked straight, Kangaroos at half time by 10 points. The Bulldogs came out snarling in the 3rd quarter to reduce the Kangaroos' 3 quarter time lead to 3 points. They had a 5 goal to 4 goal quarter setting up a big last quarter. With the game on the line one of the 2 clubs had to stand up, and it was the Bulldogs. Again if the Bulldogs had kicked straight the margin would have been a lot bigger. The Bulldogs kicked 4 goals 6 behinds for the quarter to the Kangaroos' 1 goal 3 behinds. If the Bulldogs can get a full team on the ground at any one time the rest of the Country Energy TAFL will be put on notice that the Bulldogs are well on the way to the finals in 2009.
