The SFL have done some research over recent years results and with the financial benefit for Clubs and the League the Final 5 is an inviting option. The Final 5 will reward the team finishing on top of the ladder with a break in the first week of the finals and this concept will be trialed in First division Seniors and Reserves, Second division Seniors and Reserves and Colts in 2009.
The finals series will still be held over 4 weeks based upon the following format:
First week - Finals
4 versus 5 in an elimination final - GAME 1
2 versus 3 in a qualifying final - GAME 2
Team who finished top have a week off.
Second week - Semi Finals
Loser of game 1 is out of the finals.
Winner of game 1 versus loser of game 2 - first semi final - GAME 3
Team who finished on top of ladder versus winner game 2 - second semi final - GAME 4
Third week - Preliminary final
Loser of game 3 is out of finals
Winner of game 3 versus loser of game 4 - GAME 5
Fourth week - Grand Final
Loser of game 5 is out of finals
Winner of game 4 versus winner of game 5
The days on which each final is played will be announced in due course.
