Original son returns to West CoastTHE West Coast Eagles has announced that former player Phil Narkle has accepted the position of Indigenous liaison officer and will be joining the football club in early April.
Narkle was an inaugural member of the West Coast Eagles squad and played in the club's first game against Richmond in 1987. He has been employed by the club on a part-time basis for the past couple of years scouting WAFL games.
As the club's Indigenous liaison officer, Narkle will work closely with members of the player development team, as well as the club's recruiting staff, community staff and the David Wirrpanda Foundation.
West Coast Eagles general manager, football operations Neale Daniher is delighted with the addition to his department.
Phil will be one of the very few Indigenous officers working in AFL clubs," Daniher said. "His broad experience and unique skills set will be of great benefit to what is a very specialised role at West Coast. We are looking forward to his contribution."

Football honours: Won the Medallists Medal in 1977 for the fairest and best player in the WAFL Colts. In 1978, he was judged Swan Districts best first-year player and in 1981 was fairest and best at Swans. In 1982, 1983 and 1990 he was a premiership player with Swan Districts and in 1983 won the Sandover Medal. In 1987 he earned all-Australian honours and in 1992 and 1993 he was captain of Swan Districts.
