Collingwood and Geelong are best placed to break into the top eight in 2009.
That is the verdict from VFL fans who in a recent poll on www.victorianfootballleague.com.au have tipped the Cats and Magpies as the year's biggest improvers. Each received 26 per cent of the vote.
The Magpies have recruited Damien Peverill in the off-season as a playing assistant coach and many believe they will be a stronger unit in Gavin Brown's second-year in charge. The Cats have been bolstered by the VFL's best player, James Podsiadly, who adds instant goal kicking punch.
