Bendigo Bombers notched its first win of the pre-season against the Bendigo Football League All-Stars at Queen Elizabeth Oval yesterday.
The Bombers and BFL played a spirited contest, with the VFL side running out 12.11 (83) to 9.5 (59) winners. But the result mattered little as the day's main concern was to raise funds for those affected by the Victorian Bushfires.
In a brilliant opening burst, the Bendigo Bombers jumped their opponents and raced to a 39-point lead midway through the first quarter without the BFL troubling the scorers. No doubt coach Adrian Hickmott will be looking to repeat this sizzling start when his side's VFL season kicks off on April 12 against the Northern Bullants at Visy Park.
The Bombers withstood a second-half fightback from the BFL side to cruise to an easy 24-point win.
Better players for the Bombers included half-back Tyson Slattery, Centre Half Forward Blair Holmes and newcomer Michael Still from the Northern Knights.
The day proved a great success with a highly entertaining Celebrity match featuring Bendigo Bombers coach Adrian Hickmott among other ex-AFL champions before the senior game.
