3-time Defending Champions Kapiti-Horowhenua have had an up-and-down tournament and looked vulnerable against a resurgent Otago team who had a slow start on day one, but have been improving with every game.
Kapiti-Horowhenua open the scoring after 5 minutes, but Otago scored shortly after and the score continued to see-saw with the half-time score 3-2 to Otago.
The first ten minutes of the second half saw strong defence, mixed with attacking runs from both teams, and it wasn’t until a run-away touchdown to Kapiti-Horowhenua number 7, Jason McCarthy, that the game sprung to life again.
With the score locked up at 3-all, with 10 minutes to go, both teams looked determined to take the win.
Kapiti-Horowhenua score again to make it 4-3, but with 5 minutes left crucial mistakes from the Kapiti-Horowhenua team let Otago score twice to take the game 5-4
