The game was opened with some electrifying touch rugby as the Wellington Black dummy half (n9) showed good pace to split the Wanganui defence and then the presence of mind to link up with (n10) to give his side the early lead. Minutes later in almost identical fashion (n9) makes another sniping break but this time linked up with supporting player (n11) for the team’s second score.
From the restart Wanganui come back with an immediate answer. Wanganui’s (N11) producing a jinking run and pinpoint pass for (N4) to go over.
Moments before half time (n14) finds good support from (n11) who slides in for the score.
The second half starts with both sides struggling to negotiate the deteriorating weather conditions, but in a similar manner to the start of the first half it is the Wellington Black dummy half (N9) who shows superior speed and good skill to set up a score for his side. After a good score from Wanganui, it is that man (N9) who sets up a further 2 scores for the Wellington Blacks to secure the win for his team.
