Ten From Cairns Make Kookaburra’s
Ten players from Cairns U18 were rewarded with selection in the Queensland Country Kookaburra team after their performances at the U18 Queensland Country Championships in Rockhampton on the weekend.
The Piccones Cairns Lions traveled to Rockhampton to battle it out with the Central Queensland Country team (Townsville, Mackay, Capricornia) and the South Queensland Country team (Darling Downs, Bundaberg, Wide Bay) in very hot and trying conditions at Stenlake Oval.
In what is essentially the U18 Queensland Country Kookaburra trials 66 players competed for 22 places with an impressive 9 places going to Cairns players plus 1 player named as an emergency.
Both games were vigorously fought out with Cairns going down by a mere 3 points in their first clash with Central Queensland after numerous wasted opportunities in front of goal early kept in Central Queensland in the game. In the second game Cairns eventually took control running out comfortable 32 point victors.

The players final training session will be at Cazalys on Monday March 2nd at 5pm. The Kookaburras will head to Brisbane on March 6th to compete in the Queensland State Championships.
