Rumbalara product sees Seagulls as a perfect fit
CHRIS EGAN hasn't given up on his AFL dream. Delisted by Collingwood last year after 27 games and four years with the Magpies, Egan has taken proactive steps in resurrecting his place in the top flight.
His management approached VFL club Williamstown early last month about a possible placement and the Seagulls were more than happy to oblige, signing the 22-year-old the very next day.
Egan was picked up by the 'Pies in the 2004 AFL national draft at number 10. He was sensationally fined $900 in just his second game for giving West Coast Eagles fans the 'bird' after scoring a goal. It marked him as a player to watch but he was unable to sustain his form after injury curtailed his final two seasons, playing just three games in 2007 and 2008.
Williamstown have welcomed Egan into the fold.
"After speaking to him, Chris understands that he joins Williamstown on our terms but he obviously is hurting after being delisted and is determined to do everything possible to play AFL football again," Brendan Curry, the Seagulls' general manager, said. "We think it's a win-win for both the club and Chris and really, it is up to him now to back up with performances what he has spoken about.
"Chris feels comfortable playing at Williamstown as he played a number of games with our club when we were aligned with Collingwood."
At 187cm, the athletic Egan offers the Seagulls a variety of options in attack or defence.
