Inspirational Bali-bombing survivor Jason McCartney will be a specialist skills coach at Calder this season.
McCartney played 182 games with Collingwood, Adelaide and North Melbourne from 1991 to 2003. He also defied all odds and survived the Bali bombings in 2002, going on to make a successful comeback to AFL football in Round 11 of that season.
Since retiring from AFL football McCartney has become a prominent motivational speaker and has written a book called After Bali, recalling his ordeal. He is currently employed by the AFL in a game development position.
Calder Cannons region manager Ian Kyte said the club ws thrilled to have McCartney as part of its coaching staff and was looking forward to his insight and input.
