Weekly Wrap - National teams selections, Tupu play-offs and more

On the eve of their departure to Europe for a friendly series against Finland and Poland followed by their Olympic Qualifying Tournament, the Tall Blacks have announced Dan Fotu has been added to their squad of 14. Dan joins Sam Waardenburg, Corey Webster and Yanni Wetzell as the four former Harbour reps in the men’s national side.

Good luck to Gus Dallow and Jameer Reed who departed these shores on Monday with the New Zealand national team headed to the FIBA U17 World Cup in Turkey. Harbour’s Director of Basketball Greg Brockbank is a member of the U17’s coaching staff. Go well fellas!

Good luck also to the Harbour Breeze team that are contesting the inaugural Tupu League play-offs in Tauranga this weekend.

The Breeze are drawn in Pool C alongside Tauranga City and Wellington in the 12-team tournament.

Both Dan Fotu and Corey Webster played in winning sides ahead of their departure with the Tall Blacks.

Dan had a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds as the Nelson Giants defeated the Hawkes Bay Hawks 96-69 while Corey also had a double-double. He had a season high 13 assists to go with 17 points in the 100-77 home win over Tauranga Whai on Sunday.

No fewer than 10 former Harbour reps were on show in the game on Sunday. In addition to Corey the Tuatara had Rob Loe (18 points), Charlie Dalton (14 points), Reuben Fitzgerald and Chris McIntosh.

The Whai’s former Harbour reps are Kruz Perrott-Hunt (15 points), Denhym Brooke (10 points), Jayden Boucher (2 points), Zion Anderson and Jett Thompson.  

The next opportunity to see the Tuatara is Wednesday, June 19 when Otago Nuggets are the visitors at Eventfinda Stadium. 

The Rapid League game begins at 6.30pm with the NBL encounter commencing at 7.30pm.

James Moors scored 15 points for Manawatu Jets as they went down 107-66 against the Rams in Canterbury.

Overseas Professional Players

In the German League best of five Grand Final series ALBA Berlin were beaten 3-1 by Bayern Munich.

In his final game before linking up with the Tall Blacks Yanni Wetzell scored 11 points for Berlin. 

In NBL1 West Olivia Berry and Ella Fotu were once again in outstanding form as Kalamunda Eastern Suns beat Joondalup Wolves 106-101. 

Olivia scored a career high 31 points whilst Ella filled the stats line with 17 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals and a block.

NBL1 South Keilor Thunder held off a late charge from Ringwood to win 84-78. Penina Davidson had 16 points and 9 rebounds while Akiene-Tera Reed tallied 11 points.
