Weekly Wrap - High School 3x3 and news from the Pro ranks

We begin this week’s roundup with some schools basketball news. Rosmini College, the defending champions, had to settle for a bronze medal at the New Zealand Secondary Schools 3x3 National Championships in Wellington at the weekend. After being unbeaten through pool play the squad of Liam Bates, Mattie Dalton, Bart Jackowski, Josh Wyllie and Chris Wyllie lost 19-15 to Rotorua Boys in the semi-finals before defeating Palmerston North Boys High School 21-14 in the bronze medal game.

In addition Josh Wylie was named to the tournaments All-Star Four.

Sal’s National Basketball League – Round 3 review.

Corey Webster scored 25 points and Rob Loe 18 in the 88-84 loss at the Nelson Giants on Friday night. The Tuatara bounced back in style in Christchurch a couple of days later defeating the Canterbury Rams 111-99 with the Webster and Loe tandem again in good form.

Rob scored a season high 33 points to go with 13 rebounds and 7 assists while Corey was also in double-double territory dishing 10 assists to accompany 25 points. 

On a night when the Tuatara dropped an incredible 18 threes the former Harbour duo collectively made 10 of them from 15 attempts at 67%.

For the Giants Dan Fotu (pictured) had an impressive stats line of 17 points, 12 rebounds, 5 assists and a couple of steals  in that win against the Tuatara.

Tai Webster scored 13 points and grabbed 8 rebounds as the Otago Nuggets earned a good win against the Wellington Saints (105-98) in Dunedin on Saturday night.

In Invercargill Scott Telfer scored 9 points for Southland Sharks in a 100-75 home loss to the Wellington Saints. 

Kruz Perrott-Hunt scored 9 points and dished 5 assists but the Tauranga Whai were pounded 88-55 by the Taranaki Airs. 

Liam Judd scored 14 points and grabbed 8 rebounds as the Manawatu Jets went down 92-82 to Hawkes Bay Hawks.

The next opportunity to see NBL basketball live on the North Shore will be this Friday, April 19th when the Tuatara host Southland Sharks at Eventfinda Stadium.

The Rapid League game begins at 6.30pm with the NBL encounter commencing at 7.30pm.

Oversees Professional Players

In Australian NBL1 action:

Akiene-Tera Reed scored 21 points as Keilor Thunder made it four consecutive wins to open their NBL1 South season – a 97-80 win over Geelong.

Also in the South Conference Ash Udiseke had 9 points and 5 rebounds as Casey Cavaliers were defeated 95-67 by Sandringham Sabres.

In NBL1 West Ella Fotu scored 12 points in Kalamunda Eastern Suns 98-69 loss to Cockburn Cougars.

Tochigi Brex had a win and a loss in their double header against Hokkaido Sapporo with Isaac Fotu scoring in double figures in each game.

In the first up 79-71 defeat he scored 14 points and followed that with 10 points and 10 rebounds in an 84-67 victory.

The defeat ended a run of 21 consecutive victories for Brex who now have an overall record of 45-8 in the Japanese League as they head the Eastern Conference. 

James Moors made it nine double figure outings on the bounce when going 7 from 9 shooting to tally 17 points as Leeuwarden went down 89-80 to Belfius Mons in Dutch League play.

Also in double figures was Matt Freeman as Craiova beat Laguna 74-61 in the Rumanian League. Matt finished with 14 points as he nailed 4 from 7 threes.

Sam Mennenga scored 8 points as Karditsas went down 85-70 to PAOK in the Greek League.
