Werribee has snared ex-Hawthorn and North Melbourne forward Nathan Thompson.
Thompson will play for the Tigers in 2009 and will also be the forward line coach. He helps fill the huge hole left by 2008 Liston Trophy winner James Podsiadly, who has shifted to Geelong's VFL team.
The former Hawk and Kangaroo played three VFL games for the Tigers in 2008 as a member of the North Melbourne list aligned to Werribee.
Coach Simon Atkins said he was delighted to have Thompson at the club.
"He brings a lot of experience to our young group," Atkins said.
"He will be a huge presence on the field and a player that we know can make a match winning contribution. His role as assistant coach, looking after our forward line, will be invaluable, with what he can pass onto our players.”
Thompson, who played 119 games with the Hawks and 60 games with North Melbourne (15 in 2008), kicked over 300 career goals in the AFL.
“I played at Werribee a few times last year and really enjoyed my time there," Thompson said.
"I am really looking forward to the opportunity to contribute to a team that is on the rise”.
