The 2009 Manpower AFL Mackay Premiership Season was ratified at the December 2008 League meeting.
The draw incorporates an 18 round home and away season, with a three week final series. The season starts on 4 April 2009, with the pre-season carnival to be held by Whitsunday AFC on 28 March 2009.
Representative football is alive and well in season 2009, with the City v Country match, with the 3 city based clubs (Eastern Swans, Mackay City and North Mackay) and 3 country teams (Bakers Creek, Moranbah and Whitsunday) set to clash again at Moranbah on 2 May 2009.
Negotiations are underway between the Wide Bay, Capricornia, Mackay and Townsville AFL Leagues to develop a central Queensland country carnival. The carnival will run in Rockhampton over the Queens Birthday weekend (6 June 2009), and incorporate representative teams from each League in a lightning round robin and finals matches.
The final series will again run over 3 weeks, with the Major and Minor semi-finals taking place on the first Saturday and Sunday of the series. The finals rotation system will remain in place, with the 2009 Grand Final to be hosted by Eastern Swans on 12 September 2009.
On the social front, the season launch will be held at Harrup Park on Friday 20 March 2009. The night will be an informal affair, with a coach’s forum and special life-membership presentation.
