The league last night announced a $19,227 surplus, underpinned by finals income of $80,203 and a jump in sponsorship from 18,549 to $29,254. Club delegates at the league's annual meeting last night shared in the financial glow, learning there would be shared spoils.
WDFNL president Justin Balmer announced the league would supply home-and-away footballs for all clubs in 2009, as well netballs for A grade teams.
Balmer said clubs would also be given the choice of a $1200 contribution towards purchasing alternate strips, IT support or medical equipment.
"We're in a very solid position," he said.
"We haven't been affected by drought, like other leagues.
"It's probably the most successful the league has been, as a financial base."
Balmer attributed the league's buoyant position to the groundwork put in place by retiring vice-president Ian Amoore and former general manager Logie Watson.
He also praised executive members Dianne Membery and Andrew Thomson for helping to shape the league's finances.
The league's popularity is likely to be strengthened after it pegged admission prices at $8 for 2009.
"We decided in the current financial circumstances and the way the league is going financially there was no justification for increasing admission prices," Balmer said.
"We decide our finals prices mid-year but I would expect them to stay the same.
"One of the big positives of the league now is you can, as a family, go to all your football and netball on a Saturday, with the exception of under 12s on Sunday."
Balmer said the league's challenge was to maintain the strength of its clubs by ensuring they were well administered and competitive.
Ken Knowles, Carey Hackett and Ken McSween were elected unopposed to fill vacancies on the league's executive last night. Knowles was elevated to the position of vice-president.
The 2009 season will see games on Easter Saturday and the Sunday after Anzac Day with a mid-year break on the June long weekend.
