2023 WABL Recap - Round 17
In Round 17, the Under 12 boys ended the day with a 3-1 record. The Champs Team won 73-62 against the Lightning and remain on top of the ladder. Noah Growden had a big 22-point scoring performance. Team 2 continues their top of the ladder momentum with another win. This Sunday, they won 76-56 against the Suns. Lewis Brown had 19 points as the top scorer of the contest. Team 3 had a close game and fell just short to Warwick, 42-49. Team 4 had a close 49-44 win against Rockingham team 2. Mason Taylor was leading scorer with 19.
The Under 12 Girls had a 2-2 day. The Champs team had a dominant second half, winning 62-32. But the score at halftime was a 2-point deficit for the Wolves. They then won the second half 41-9. London Franceschi had 24 points! After getting ahead early, Team 2 had a tough time with Rockingham’s first team and lost 19-50. Team 3 also fell short in a 32-51 game versus the Hawks. The girls just got down early in the first quarter, and despite playing well for the final 3 quarters, they just couldn’t get back in the game. Team 4 had a great win against the Magic, 37-30.
The Under 14 Boys went 1-3. The Champs team put up a great fight against the top team on the ladder, but still fell short. Harry Connolly fell one rebound and one point short of the double-double, while Aiden Jones led the team in scoring with 23. Team 2 lost 64-52. Ashton Thorpe and James Arnatt both had 12-point efforts in the loss. Team 3 had a blowout win over the Raiders, and Tyler Simon hit 4 threes and had 18 points. Team 4 had a 6-point loss to the Hawks, 56-62. Dylan Thomson had 25 points in the game.
The Under 14 Girls went 1-3. The Champs girls won 76-64 over Mandurah and are now in 4th place. Bethany Georgiu (16) and T’yanna Keating (15) were the game’s leading scorers. Team 2 had a tough loss to East Perth team 1, 35-52. Zoe French had a big 18-point performance, but they still didn’t get over the line after a 4th quarter run went against them. Team 3 lost a very close game to Warwick, 36-40. Ella Augustin had a great 13-point effort in the defeat. Team 4 got down big in the first quarter and couldn’t recover, losing 28-51 in the end to the Hawks. Jaylyn Basaran led the scorers with 17 points.
The Under 16 Boys were 3-1 on the day. The Champs boys had a big win against Lakeside, 110-46. Aiden Bradley had 20 points and Loui Pibworth had 24. Team 2 won by 1 point to Slammers, 74-73. Angus Bacon and Jack Goosen led the team in scoring with 16 apiece. Team 3 lost by 11 to Warwick. Rhys Weir led the team in scoring with 12, but as a team, they struggled to score a bit, with only 47 points total. Team 4 had an 88-57 win over East Perth. Big man Jake Colgan led the way with 18 points, but Kai Starr had 17, Hudson Rampling had 16, and both Piok Magot and Brayden Young had 11. That is amazing balance in scoring.
The Under 16 Girls went 2-2. The Champs girls hung in tough, but ultimately fell 16 points short against Warwick. Holly Kemp and Aisha Allen led the team in scoring with 12 each. Team 2 had a big win over Slammers, sealed off by a 24-8 fourth quarter that left nothing in doubt. Luca Kuhn (20), Emie Stein (19) and Rose Wheeler (15) led the team in scoring. Team 3 also had a lopsided win over Hills Raiders. The game was never in doubt. Layla Montgomerie led all scorers with 23. Team 4 lost a tough game against the 2nd team on the ladder. But the team remains locked into finals in the 6-spot.
The Under 18 Boys had a 1-3 record. The lone win was the Champs boys who had a huge win against the Senators, 77-73. This puts them in the 6-spot on the ladder and will greatly aide their chances to make finals. Team 2 played well and were up at 3 quarters time but trailed off in the 4th quarter to lose a close game 93-97. Team 3 had a tough loss, 83-90 against Cockburn. Jake Feist had a big 19-point performance, but ultimately the team fell just short. Team 4 lost 81-107 to East Perth, but Luke Owens, Jarvis Davies, Brodie Duguid, Kindness James, and Matthew Gibbs all scored in double figures.
The Under 18 Girls group went 2-1 on the day. The Champs team had a lopsided win versus Senators, 78-46. Kyah Nichols (21), Jaz Kirby (18), Ty Bolland (16) and Izzy Bassett (14) all had big days in a great team effort. Team 2 had a 61-55 victory over Hills Raiders. Chloe Goldsmith led the team with a 26-point game. Team 3 had a bye this week. Team 4 stayed close the whole game, getting up 3 points at the end of the 3rd quarter, but unfortunately ended up losing the game by 7.
The Under 20 Men went 1-1. The Champs team won a defensive battle 70-56 versus Willetton. Beau Gardiner led the team with 21 points, and Jack Kingswood chipped in 20 points as well. Team 2 had a great start but couldn’t maintain the lead as the got up 10 early but ended up losing 81-95. Harrison McGuinnes had a big 20-point game though, and Ewan Butler also added 17.
The Wolves ended the day a record of 16 wins and 17 losses.
All the Wolves teams should be proud of their effort this Sunday. We are nearing finals season and wish all teams the best of luck in round 18 to help lock in a finals spot! Good luck and go Wolves!
