We begin our weekly roundup with national team news. 

Four former Harbour reps (pictured) are currently attending the Tall Ferns Selection Camp  at the Pulman Arena. 

Left to right in the picture are Penina Davidson, Tayla Dalton, Ash Kelman-Poto and Akiene-Tera Reed. The quartet are amongst 18 players vying for selection for the 12-player team for a five-game tour of Europe and the FIBA Asia Cup that will be played in Sydney from 26 June.

There are plenty of congratulatory messages to express this week.

Firstly to Bailey Flavell and Kodee Williams-Sefo who have been named to the New Zealand team to attend the FIBA U16 Women’s Asian Championship in Amman, Jordan from 10-16 July.

Secondly to Tom Abercrombie who has re-signed with the Breakers for the 2023-24 Australian NBL season – his 16th season with the club. The Breakers all-time leading points scorer has also played the most games for the club – his first game of the new season will be his 400^th in Breakers colours.

And thirdly in American collegiate news Kiani Saxon will play NCAA Division II basketball at Missouri Western State University beginning later this year. Kiani has spent the past two seasons playing junior college at LSU Eunice.

Finally U19 representative Jaelah Clayton, a Secondary Schools National Champion with Westlake Girls High last year, has announced that she has committed to playing at Mineral Area College in Missouri. Jaelah will begin her basketball scholarship later this year.

Now to the playing action and in the opening game of Round 6 of the Sal’s NBL Jarrod Kenny rolled back the years in his performance for the Hawkes Bay Hawks on Thursday night scoring 14 points and dishing 5 assists. The Hawks snapped a four game losing streak to defeat the Taranaki Airs 102-93.

However the Hawks were well beaten on Saturday going down 106-75 to the Auckland Tuatara at Eventfinda Stadium on Saturday night. Rob Loe scored 24 points and dished 7 assists in the win with Charlie Dalton adding 6 points.

The Southland Sharks went down 97-83 to the Nelson Giants but not before Brayden Inger tallied a season high 17 points.

We can’t finish this roundup without giving a shout-out to Harbour U19 representative Aaron Sievert who dropped a career high 53 points last Friday playing for Northcote College in the Auckland Secondary Schools Senior A competition. 

 Aaron scored 51 points against Aorere College last season but in the 111-65 win against Kelston Boys High School on Friday he beat that by 2 points to post a new career high.
