Week in Review - Six Harbour players in Tall Blacks Squad plus more outstanding College performances
The Tall Blacks squad of 24 was recently named for the upcoming FIBA World Cup Qualifying ties against Saudi Arabia in Christchurch and Lebanon in Wellington.
There are six former Harbour representative players named in the 24 including two sets of brothers; Dan and Isaac Fotu, Tai and Corey Webster. Sam Waardenburg is the only uncapped player named in the squad while at the other end of the experience spectrum Rob Loe, with 90 caps, is the second most experienced player behind Corey (93 caps).
Waardenburg, the Webster brothers and the Breakers Harbour contingent of Rob Loe, Tom Abercrombie and Dan Fotu are NBL play-offs bound.
Sam and Cairns Taipans will play the Tasmanian Jack Jumpers with the winners to meet the Breakers in a three-game semi-final series.
Corey and Tai Webster, and their Perth Wildcats team, match up with South East Melbourne Phoenix in the 5th v 6thplay-in game.
Kruz Perrott-Hunt has moved into elite company in college basketball after scoring a team high 18 points in South Dakota’s 86-72 loss to North Dakota.
His fourth point in the game brought up the senior guard’s 1,000th career point – only the fifth Kiwi to reach that mark in Men’s NCAA Division I basketball.
He joins fellow Tall Blacks Kirk Penney, Tai Webster and Craig Bradshaw, plus current collegiate player Callum McRae, in the 1,000 points club.

Sam Mennenga posted 14 points on 6 from 9 shooting in Davidson’s 93-78 win against Massachusetts. Sam is having an extraordinary year; averaging more than 15 points per game in the A-10 Conference.
James Moors was in good form for Colorado State despite an 88-79 loss at Utah State. James finished with 13 points, making 5 from 8 shots, whilst also tallying a team high 7 rebounds and a couple of blocks.
In women’s Division I play Emme Shearer, one of the leading 3-point shooters in the West Coast Conference, made 5 from 7 from deep for a career high equaling 21 points - and grabbed 8 rebounds - as Portland defeated San Francisco 83-80 in overtime.
Emme’s 8 points (and 5 assists) in Portland’s 80-68 win at Santa Clara has carried her beyond 600 career points.
In NCAA Division II play Tessa Talo-Tomokino filled the stats line with 13 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals and a block as Northeastern State beat Rogers State 72-48.
Eckerd College, boasting a 14-1 Sunshine State Conference record, defeated Florida Tech 80-55 with Hannah Wentworth top scoring. Hannah made 6 from 13 threes in her 19-point haul.
Marvin Williams-Dunn made both his 3-point attempts for 6 points as Ouachita Baptist suffered a 68-56 loss at the hands of Southern Nazarene.
In Junior College action Boston Caldwell top scored for Central Maine in their 82-75 win over Maine Augusta. Boston followed that with 23 points, again the top score, in an 84-76 defeat of Albany College of Pharmacy.
Parehuia Delamere led the scoring for Western Texas in their 63-54 overtime loss at Frank Phillips. Parehuia finished with 13 points and 8 rebounds.
Rashaan Smith tallied 10 points as Western Nebraska eased to a 63-48 victory at Lamar.
Kiani Saxon scored 11 points, on 5 from 6 shooting, as Louisiana State Eunice enjoyed a commanding 111-75 win against Southern Shreveport. Kiani also produced 3 blocks, 3 rebounds and 4 assists.
