Milestones reached, records created and personal best performances recorded – the week in review has all the news on our Harbour athletes lighting it up overseas.

Congratulations to Kruz Perrott-Hunt who played his 100^th collegiate game for the University of South Dakota today (Tuesday NZT).

Kruz is just the 17th Kiwi male to bring up a century of NCAA Division I appearances joining a distinguished list that includes no fewer than nine former Harbour representative players – a testimony to the programmes and pathways we at Harbour are proud of creating.  

The other eight Harbour centurions are Kirk Penney, Tai Webster, Rob Loe, Matt Freeman, Jack Salt, Dan Fotu, Sam Waardenburg and Rory Fannon.  

Kruz scored 10 points in his milestone game but it was a contest in which South Dakota suffered its biggest loss of the season going down 103-53 at Summit League leaders  Oral Roberts.

Davidson College snapped a four game losing streak with a 64-57 win at La Salle. Sam Mennenga was once again to the fore leading Davidson in points and rebounds with a double-double of 27 points (10/16FG, 3/4 3PG) and 11 rebounds. Those 27 points were a career high and it was the third double-double in the last five games for the 2022 Tall Black.

Sam followed that with a team high 16 points against Rob Loe’s alma mater St Louis but Davidson (3-6) came up short against the Atlantic 10 Conference co-leaders losing 74-70.

In NCAA Division II action Hannah Wentworth scored 18 points as Eckerd College improved their record to 13-1 in Sunshine State Conference play. Hannah, shooting the three-ball at 43% this season, nailed 6 triples in her 18 points as Eckerd defeated Embry-Riddle 76-64.

Keeley Tini scored 7 points and Jordyn Maddix half a dozen as Auburn University at Montgomery fell 72-64 to Delta State.

Tessa Talo-Tomokino also registered 7 points in a loss. Northeastern State defeated 73-52 by Emporia.

In Junior College play Boston Caldwell finished close to a double-double as Central Maine defeated Bryant & Stratton-Albany 64-51. Boston finished with 10 points and a team high 8 rebounds. 

Kiani Saxon had 8 points and 6 rebounds as Louisiana State Eunice dominated Baton Rouge to win 85-49.

Rashaan Smith added 5 rebounds to 7 points as Western Nebraska slipped to an 82-79 loss to Trinidad State.

Waiaaria Rogers scored 13 points in Marshalltown’s 119-43 loss at Iowa Western.

In news from the professional ranks:

Former Breaker Corey Webster brought up 3,000 Australian NBL points in the Perth Wildcats win at the weekend. He joins Tom Abercrombie (4,268 points), Kirk Penney (3,773) and Mika Vukona (3,218) in the distinguished Kiwi 3,000 points club.

Note that all but Mika Vukona are former Harbour rep players.

Until the weekend Rob Loe, who played 133 games for the University of St Louis Billikens (2010-14), held the New Zealand all-time high appearance record for Men’s NCAA basketball. 

Playing his 134th game for Abilene Christian University on Sunday Tobias Cameron has set a new record. Cameron, the eldest son of Tall Black coach Pero Cameron celebrated the milestone with a win – tallying 8 points and 5 rebounds as Abilene pipped Utah Tech 81-76.

It should be noted that Rob played the standard four years at St Louis while Cameron has taken advantage of the additional ‘covid year’ to play a fifth year at Abilene. However the former Westlake Boys and Harbour centre still holds the record for most starts – 121.

Sam Waardenburg, in his rookie pro season with the Cairns Taipans, is one of three finalists for the NBL’s 2022 Next Generation Award. He is joined by Luke Travers (Perth Wildcats) and Sam Froling (Illawarra Hawks).

Despite the Taipans going down 99-96 to Adelaide 36ers on Monday night Sam celebrated his finalist nomination with a career high 26 points.

Akiene-Tera Reed posted her 8^th double-double of the Finnish League season. Tera finished with 16 points, 12 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals but unfortunately her club Pyrinto were pipped 97-96 by Espoo.
