Boston Caldwell and Tessa Talo-Tomokino the headline acts this week

We begin our weekly roundup in the States where there are career high’s to report for Tessa Talo-Tomokino and Boston Caldwell.

Boston Caldwell, in his freshman season, dropped 24 second half points to tally a massive 38 points for Central Maine but couldn’t prevent the Mustangs going down 91-86 to Berkeley. He shot 13 from 19 from the field including 7 from 12 from beyond the arc.

Boston is shooting a more than healthy 43% from beyond the 3-point line (18/42) and is second on the team in scoring averaging 14.9ppg.

In NCAA Division II play Tessa Talo-Tomokino, making 7 from 13 from the field, scored a career high 20 points but it couldn’t prevent Northeastern State falling 65-57 to Emporia State.

In other Division II play number 7 was a common theme.

Jordyn Maddix scored 7 points while Keeley Tini grabbed a team high 7 rebounds to accompany 4 points in Auburn at Montgomery’s 92-60 loss to Lee University.

Hannah Wentworth also scored 7 points as Eckerd College improved to 8-1 with an 81-62 win against Saint Leo.

Will Heather dished a season high 7 assists to go with 9 points as Dallas Baptist thrashed state neighbours Dallas Christian 107-52.

In NCAA Division I action, despite St Mary’s being heavily beaten 91-56 by Montana State Tayla Dalton made a season high 20 points knocking down 6 from 10 threes - Tayla has now passed the 500 Division I career points mark.

Davidson defeated Western Carolina 72-64 with Sam Mennenga adding 7 rebounds and a pair of assists to 16 points. The Tall Blacks forward is closing in on 600 career points – currently he has 576 points.

James Moors added 6 rebounds to 12 points (6/4FG) as Colorado State demolished Peru State 115-72.

Kruz Perrott-Hunt scored 8 points as South Dakota were put to flight by Air Force going down 79-58.

The Harbour team to contest the Tarkanian Classic in Las Vegas, commencing Friday December 16, headed to the States on Sunday.

The team contains the next wave of players hoping to forge college careers (pictured) from Left to Right:

Dontae Matakatea, Jacob Fotu, Rocco Chang, Charlie Dalton, Tom Beattie, Will Shortt, Louie Gordon, Hunter Adam, Aaron Sievert, Hamzah Zahran. The team will be coached by Matt Lacey with Josh Davis his assistant.

From the pros:

Having torched the Breakers for 26 points last week Corey Webster continued his good form scoring 22 points as Perth Wildcats beat Adelaide 36ers 98-90 in the Australian NBL.

Then in his 250th NBL game he hit the game winner on Monday night as Perth came from eight points down with 45 seconds to play against Melbourne United to claim the most unlikely of wins 90-89. Corey finished with 20 points making 4 from 6 threes – the fourth the game winner.

Isaac Fotu brought up 1,000 points for Tochigi Brex as they defeated Toyama 77-66 in the Japanese League – 12 points and 7 rebounds for Isaac in that one.

Yanni Wetzell scored 10 points as ALBA Berlin defeated Bayreuth 91-83 to remain at the top of the German League with an 8-1 record.

 

Also in Germany Matt Freeman scored 9 points, and added 5 rebounds, as Bremerhaven beat Kirchheim 80-62.
