Congratulation to the Harbour representatives that helped the New Zealand Under 15 teams qualify for the 2023 FIBA U16 Asia Cup:

Three of our Harbour U15 Girls Nationals Championship winning team played for New Zealand last week at the FIBA U15 Oceania Championships. The trio of Zenthia Stowers, Bailey Flavell and Emma-Kaye Schroeder helped New Zealand qualify for the U16 Asia Cup by gaining silver.

Bailey excelled in the championship game against Australia scoring a team high 19 points (9/15FG) although Australia were comfortable 100-54 winners.

Jameer Reid and Gus Dallow were on the New Zealand Men’s team that also won a silver medal, although trailing Australia by just one point (75-74) with 90 seconds to play in the championship game, a gold medal looked a possibility. However New Zealand were outscored 10-0 in the closing seconds but will head to the Asia Cup next year with a degree of confidence.        

Now to college basketball in the States:

In Men’s NCAA Division I play Kruz Perrott-Hunt made 4 from 7 threes on his way to a team high 17 points in South Dakota’s 66-59 loss to Coastal Carolina. KP-H also posted 4 rebounds and 4 assists in the loss. He followed that with 10 points as South Dakota “Kruzed” past Mount Marty 97-58.

Sam Mennenga was a highly efficient 7 from 8 from the field making 15 points, 4 rebounds and a couple of steals as Davidson College accounted for San Francisco 89-80.

James Moors added 4 rebounds and a brace of steals to 7 points (3/4FG) as Colorado State comfortably beat Mississippi Valley State 88-45.

In women’s Division I play Emme Shearer scored 8 points and snared a game high 3 steals as Portland had a comfortable 67-41 win against Northeastern.

Meanwhile in Division II action Hannah Wentworth scored 9 points as Eckerd College (ranked #5 Division II team in the nation) defeated previously unbeaten Bentley 71-51.

Tessa Talo-Tomokino dished a team high 6 assists to accompany 4 points and 2 steals as Northeastern State defeated Haskell 81-58.

Jordyn Maddix knocked down a pair of threes against West Alabama but Auburn at Montgomery were pipped 74-72.

Makenzee Boucher was trusted with more minutes at Midwestern State and responded by knocking down her only shot – a three – as well as snaring a couple of rebounds, an assist and a block in the narrow 77-73 loss to Oklahoma Baptist.

In Men’s Division II play there were 5 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists for Sean Murphy in the 91-72 loss Nebraska at Kearney suffered at the hands of Chadron State.

Marvin Williams-Dunn dished a team high 4 assists to go with 5 rebounds, a block and a couple of points in Ouachita Baptist’s 69-58 loss to Oklahoma Christian.

In Junior College Parehuia Delamere continues to stuff the stats line for Western Texas College. In the 87-75 win against Trinidad State she had 12 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals a block and an assist and followed that with 8 points, 6 rebounds, 4 steals, 2 assists and a block in a 65-50 loss to Otero. Parehuia currently leads the team in both assists and steals.

Zaaliyah Kailahi-Fulu made 6 from 9 free-throws on her way to 8 points, 5 rebounds and 2 steals as Grayson College got the better of Kilgore 72-62.

Leo Wenham scored 6 points and added 5 rebounds, plus a pair of assists and a block, as Southeast College won a tight one against North Iowa 87-84. 

In the professional arena Sam Waardenburg was outstanding for Cairns Taipans in their loss to the New Zealand Breakers on Friday night in the Australian NBL. 

The former Rangitoto College and Harbour Basketball forward finished with 15 points (5/6FG) 6 rebounds, 2 blocks and an assist.
