News of Harbour players in the NBL and overseas.
Three former Harbour representatives have announced major career moves in the past few days.
Dan Fotu’s initial foray in the professional ranks will be in his home town with the Auckland Tuatara.
Dan is about to graduate from St Mary’s College, California after four years with the Gaels. During that time Dan became one of only 14 kiwi men to make over 100 NCAA Division I appearances- he played 126 games scoring 728 points.
Remarkably, 8 of the 14 centurions are former Harbour players – can you name them? The answers will be in next week’s post (clue – 6 of the 8 are active players).
Local basketball fans will be able to see Dan play at Eventfinda Stadium with all the Tuatara home games to be played at the home of Harbour Basketball. That first game is on Saturday April 30 at 7.30pm when Taranaki Airs will be the visitors.
Here is a full list of former and current Harbour players plying their trade in Sal’s NBL this season.
Auckland Tuatara – Fotu, Rob Loe, Reuben Fitzgerald, Chris McIntosh, Tom Beattie, Charlie Dalton
Franklin Bulls – Corey Webster, Denhym Brooke, Jett Thompson, Christian Martin
Taranaki Airs – Scott Telfer
Hawkes Bay Hawkes – Jarrod Kenny, Jack Salt
Southland Sharks – Brayden Inger, Jaylen Gerrand
After an outstanding Australian NBL season Yanni Wetzell has left the New Zealand Breakers to take up a contract in the highly regarded Spanish League.
Yanni and the Breakers have agreed a release from the remainder of his contract with the former Westlake Boys High and Harbour rep joining Spanish side Baskonia.
Yanni has been a standout for the Breakers in what has been a difficult and disappointing season. Not only has he been the highest scorer averaging 17.7 points per game but also the leading rebounder with 8.2 boards per game.
Those numbers place him sixth overall in the NBL in both categories. Take out the imports and he is second in scoring behind Boomer Mitch Creek (South East Melbourne) and third in rebounding after Xavier Cooks (Sydney Kings) and Jo Lual-Acuil (Melbourne United).
The third player to announce a career decision is Kruz Perrott-Hunt. The former Harbour and Rosmini College player has withdrawn his name from the NCAA Transfer portal and will remain at the University of South Dakota under new coach Eric Peterson for his senior year.
In his three seasons with the Coyotes Kruz has amassed 676 points in 63 games leading the team in points (466) and assists (71) last season.
