Irish rookie Michael Quinn will look to emulate the feats of compatriot Marty Clarke in the VFL next year.
Essendon has signed the Irish teenager as an international rookie and see the 185cm Quinn starting out on a half-back flank with Bendigo to help him better learn the game.
He will also be under the tutelage of Alan Richardson, who helped develop Clarke at Collingwood. Clarke was able to improve his skills at Williamstown in 2007 and showed promise in the VFL before gaining an AFL debut.
Quinn said 2009 would be a work in progress.
"I need to work up through the steps," Quinn said.
"First is work on ball use, skills and bulking up and then get into some good training sessions and practice matches. Then I can get into playing for the Bendigo Bombers and try and play consistently for them and work my way up."
