Alwyn gave thought to an offer from Melbourne
A DREAM pairing of the dynamic Davey brothers was played out for real for seven days last month as Essendon's Alwyn Davey contemplated joining sibling Aaron at Melbourne.
Alwyn revealed this week that before signing a two-year contract extension with the Bombers last month, he gave serious thought to an offer put to him by the Demons.
It took him a full week to come to a decision.
Thankfully for Essendon fans, club loyalty was paramount to Alwyn and he signed the extension.
"Melbourne were pretty close but my mind was still telling me to stay at Essendon," he told the Herald-Sun this week.
"They're a good club, they look after all their players.
"I would've liked to have played with my brother (Aaron), but I thought, 'Stay here and see how we go in the next two years'.
"I did give it some thought because I probably won't play with my brother again, so I thought about that a real lot. And with three kids and a wife, it was a hard decision to make, but a right decision to stay at Essendon."
The brothers last played football together with Northern Territory's Palmerston Football Club earlier this decade.
A chance to reunite on the field was not taken when Aaron's Indigenous All-Stars played Alwyn's Essendon in Darwin early in 2007; Alwyn opting for club over 'country' but that opened a vacancy in the All-Stars side for someone else.
Alwyn took to the training track with a Sherrin in his hand for the first time on Wednesday, a sure sign that his recovery from knee reconstruction surgery earlier this year is going as planned.
