In Women’s Division I action Emme Shearer moved past 150 career points with a couple of buckets, plus 3 assists and a steal as Portland beat Cal State University Northridge 80-62.
Travelling across country from California to the east coast St Mary’s Gaels found it hard going against Number 2 ranked North Carolina State going down 101-73 against the Wolfpack. Tayla Dalton didn’t look out of place in such elite company scoring 9 points on 4 from 8 shooting.
In NCAA Division II play Chanel Brodeur-Muir posted 8 points, 4 rebounds and a steal despite St Thomas Aquinas finding the going a bit quick against Pace University losing 71-47.
In Junior College Waiaaria Rogers put together her best scoring game of the season in Marshalltown’s 95-67 loss to North Iowa Area. The former Rangitoto College sharp-shooter dropped 4 from 7 from beyond the arc on her way to 14 points, 3 rebounds and 4 assists.
Keeley Tini threatened another double-double as Williston Sate eased past Dickinson State 75-54. The ex-Westlake standout secured 9 rebounds to go with 21 points making 8 from 14 from the field and 5 from 6 from the charity stripe.
Rashaan Smith scored 8 points as Western Nebraska proved way too good for Central Wyoming winning 92-53 to move to 12-1 this season.
In other news Yanni Wetzell marked his Breakers debut with a couple of outstanding performances despite the team going down to South East Melbourne Phoenix on Friday and Adelaide 36ers on Sunday.
Yanni scored 18 points against the Phoenix and 20 points against the 36ers with his field goal shooting across the two games at a heady 75% (18/24).
In the Australian WNBL Penina Davidson scored 7 points as Melbourne Boomers posted a convincing 91-72 win against Southside Flyers.
Micaela Cocks has returned to Townsville Fire after taking last year off for the birth of daughter Hazel. The Fire beat Adelaide Lightning 70-59 with Micaela coming off the bench to score a couple of points.
