MG Plasterers Round 3 Recap

An interesting round 3 of the MG Plasterers SECBL concluded on Wednesday night, with 3 out of the 4 Millicent teams taking home important wins!

Kade Bradley was game MVP for the Cats in their first win against the JoeyRoos, pouring in 35 points. Bradley was too strong and persistent inside, taking advantage of the J-Roos lack of strength on the interior. Neither zone or man could stop the Cats, as Fraser Bradley found 19 points of his own despite early foul trouble, and Finn Grimes was proficient with 18.

In Millicent it was the Bulldogs proving too strong for the Saints. Although the game was competitive, the experienced Dogs ran over the top of the Saints despite a career high 17 points for young big man Harry Mules. Shaun Lock was best for the Bulldogs with 23, whilst Simon Berkefeld scored a reliable 19.

The MG MATCH OF THE WEEK turned out to be the MG MATCH OF THE SEASON between the Panthers and Cougars. A back-and-forth affair in which both teams gained the ascendancy at different points. Pioneers’ mates Kyle Tipene (35 pts) and Kane de Wit (37 pts) engaged in an enthralling tussle, each dragging their team towards the finish line. However, scores were locked after 40 mins and still nothing separated the teams after 1 over time. The Cougars had a shot to win it with just seconds remaining, but it wasn’t to be and the Panthers stay undefeated winning the double overtime classic.

On the women’s side the Cougars fought hard against the Cats before the Cats broke away in the second half to run away with a convincing victory. Stats TBC.

In Millicent Alyssa Duncan had another solid 18 for the Panthers, whilst Pioneers star Joey Jones had her breakout game for the season scoring 24 points, but it wasn’t enough to topple the soaring Saints, again led by Lacey Haines with 21 points. Lillie Paul was strong too for the Saints with a career high 20, and Poppy Venn contributed well with 15.
